Description
The Wausau School District is seeking a Nutrition Services Head Cashier to support our mission to advance student learning, achievement, and success by participating in the operation of the school food service facility providing breakfast and lunch at Wausau West High School. The Head Cashier also fills in as manager in the absence of the manager.

Knowledge of:
EDUCATION:
Required: High school diploma or equivalent.
Desired: Completion of courses pertaining to quantity food preparation, food service management, nutrition, sanitation, and supervision.
WORK EXPERIENCE:
Required: One-year experience in commercial, institutional or school food service quantity food preparation, including the preparation and serving of a major component for at least 100 meals per day is required.
Desired: Experience in supervision of food service employees, menu planning, and food ordering, food service recordkeeping, and in preparing and serving varied and balanced menus is desired.
- Assist and participate in the preparation, cooking, and service of food for students and adults.
- Assures that standardized recipes and portion controls are followed.
- Directs the food service staff by assigning and directing work, training, enforcing work production standards.
- Order appropriate quantities of food and supplies and assure proper storage and authorized use of them.
- Check goods received against requisitions and invoices and contact warehouse personnel or direct delivery vendors to correct any errors.
- Does the monthly inventory of food and supplies.
- Assure that sanitation and safety practices in all phases of the school food service operation meet established standards.
- Maintain food quality standards; including appearance and taste while assuring those meals meet the meal pattern requirements.
- Prepares, files, records, packing slips and reports required by the Nutrition Services Department.
- Follow prescribed procedures to protect the anonymity of students who qualify for free and reduced price meals and maintain a system of accountability for all meals and food sold.
- Utilize cost control procedures to avoid unwarranted food service operating costs and to stay within budgeted funds.
- Initiate requests for equipment repairs or possible replacement.
PERFORMANCE REQUIREMENTS
Knowledge of:
- Meal production planning and scheduling.
- Modern methods of quantity food preparation and food merchandising.
- Use and care of institutional kitchen equipment and utensils.
- Principles of supervision.
- Procedures followed in ordering, receiving, storing and doing inventory for food and supplies.
- Health and safety rules and regulations.
- Work within a framework of multiple and complex regulations.
- Supervise, train and evaluate the work performance of food service personnel.
- Plan well-balanced, nutritious, and appetizing menus within a fixed budget.
- Prepare food in large quantities, following standardized recipes.
- Make arithmetic computations and keep accurate records.
- Work effectively with school personnel, subordinates, students, parents, and community groups.
