These positions will provide service in a classroom for students with behavioral, physical, cognitive, or communication disabilities and perform other duties as identified as needed.

1. Dependable and conscientious with strong work ethic
2. Department of Public Instruction certification - or eligibility for certificate which includes at least 48 post high school credits
3. Demonstrated aptitude or competence for assigned responsibilities
4. Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board may find appropriate and acceptable

Performance Responsibilities:
- Under supervision of the special education teacher, works with individual students or groups of students to reinforce academic skills
- Assists the teacher in devising special strategies for reinforcing material or skills based on an understanding of individual students, their needs, interests and abilities
- Follows teacher directed discipline and behavior techniques
- Reinforces social and communication skills as determined by the teacher
- Reinforces physical skills as directed by the specialist
- Assists in meeting student health needs: including toileting, personal hygiene, physical limitations, food restrictions and medication
- Prepares academic and nonacademic materials and assists in record keeping
- Assists students with disabilities and other students needing assistance in regular and special classes
- Provides pertinent communication to special education teacher, regular education staff and parents regarding the student’s performance
- Protects the confidentiality of all students
- Directs student activities during temporary absence of the teacher from the classroom
- Assists with emergency and crisis situations as needed
- Assists in supervision of students during nonacademic activities such as recess, lunch, field trips and assembly programs, etc.
- Performs such other duties as may be assigned

- Nine/ten month year
