GENERAL DESCRIPTION:

The Purchasing Agent works under the broad general direction of the Director of Procurement and Purchasing Manager.

The Purchasing Agent is responsible for specification and inquiry preparation, purchasing, expediting, bid analysis, and invoice auditing for shipyard equipment and bulk materials.

Must be dependable and available to work all 9-hour shifts as well as overtime as workload dictates is necessary. Required to perform other related tasks as assigned, some of which may become essential to the position.

This is a family-owned company that has been in business for over 100 years. Maintaining a positive can-do attitude is a must. Required to be adaptable and willing to do tasks outside of your job description.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

  • Computer skills are a must – Microsoft Excel, Word, & Outlook. ERP experience is a plus.
  • Must be able to work in a dynamic, schedule-driven environment. Timing is a critical function. Must have the ability to read, comprehend, and execute written and oral instructions and perform basic arithmetic calculations.
  • Attention to detail is a must. Requires effective communication with project managers, department heads, vendors, and customers.
  • Must have strong problem-solving skills and the ability to work efficiently under stressful situations. Must be able to understand and abide by all company and safety regulations and policies.
  • Must be able to take notes and learn on the job. This role will be learning the functions of the Director, Manager, other agent, and from the warehouse team. You must be willing to learn and take good notes to refer back on.

WORK ENVIRONMENT AND PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully carry through the essential functions of this job. The Purchasing Agent must have the ability to perform the basic job duties with or without reasonable accommodation and without posing a direct threat to safety or health of employee or others.

  • Operations environment requires some kneeling, stooping, standing, bending, and the ability to lift and carry in excess of 120 lbs, with assistance. Manual dexterity and climbing on ladders is required.
  • Required to work in varied conditions (i.e. heat, cold, rain, ice, snow, etc.), inside and outside.
  • Moderate noise level with possible exposure to fumes, odors, gases, etc. Must be able to work in confined space/heights and operate equipment safely and efficiently.

Relocation benefits are not applicable; therefore candidate should live in / around the Charleston area. Must have a valid driver’s license to drive company vehicles and operate equipment in a safe manner. Must pass a background check.
