Full Time Position: 40 hours per week, Monday- Friday
Required Experience: 1-2 years prior clinic experience preferred.
Required Education: Graduate of a state accredited school of nursing. Current Iowa license and BLS certification.
Position Summary: Provides professional nursing care for patients receiving immunizations and treatments according to established procedures. Uses the nursing process when answering triage calls to provide effective care and guidance to patients over the phone. Will work autonomously in a dedicated triage area outside of the main clinic. Must have excellent communication and organizational skills.
Essential Function:
- Answer triage phone calls and ask appropriate assessment questions, as well as use evidence-based guidelines and protocols to determine urgency of care or appropriate referrals, as well as document calls in EMR.
- Answer scheduling calls and make appointments for same day appointments and follow-up appointments.
- Provide care for patients in the triage area and treat them according to established orders/guidelines. Examples of nursing care appropriate for triage room include, but is not limited to, antibiotic injections, immunizations, allergy injections, blood pressure checks, etc.
- Maintain established departmental procedures, objectives, quality assurance programs, environmental and infection control standards, and hospital policies including compliance policies.
- Assists with medication refill requests from the pharmacies.
- Maintain patient documentation and ensure that patient records are treated as confidential information. Adheres to the policies and procedures regarding HIPPA Guidelines.
- Provide direct patient care, evaluate outcomes, consult with other specialists as required and adjust nursing care processes as indicated to ensure optimal patient care.
- Demonstrate sensitivity to patient comfort and privacy and express interest in their progress.
- Assesses patients' conditions and provides appropriate nursing intervention.
- Maintains a safe, comfortable, and therapeutic environment for patients/families in accordance with clinic standards.
- Collaborate with providers and nursing staff to coordinate care for patients.
- Monitors and ensures accuracy of recording on patient medical records. Maintains all required reports, records, statistics, etc.
- Inspects daily for compliance with policies, procedures, regulations, and standards and takes corrective action when violations occur.
- Assists with care and maintenance of department equipment and ensures adequate stock of supplies.
- Provides peer review when requested.
- Provides learning experiences, direction, guidance, and evaluation of assigned students.
- Satisfactorily qualifies for the position through an Iowa Criminal History/Dependent Adult Abuse check within the limits of applicable laws.
