Description
Position: Pharmacy Technician
Preferred Experience: Experience with EHR (EPIC), Technician certification or experience
Required Education: High School Diploma or equivalent. Pharmacy technician certification preferred.
Position Summary: Under direction and supervision of the Pharmacist, provides accurate assistance in technical functions of the pharmacy. Performs routine departmental responsibilities. Performs technical dispensing functions when delegated by the onsite pharmacist.
Essential Function:
- Assists the pharmacist in providing medication and pharmaceutical services to patients, nurses, physicians, and other hospital personnel.
- Maintains pharmacy technician certification.
- Establishes and maintains files and records on an ongoing basis. Organizes system for maintenance of files to ensure records are updated.
- Receives and stores incoming deliveries of medications and supplies.
- Maintains established departmental procedures, objectives, quality assurance programs, environmental and infection control standards, and hospital policies.
- Ensures accurate maintenance of patient's medical record. Adheres to the policies and procedures regarding HIPAA Guidelines.
- Inspects drug supplies provided and controlled by an Iowa licensed pharmacy under pharmacist supervision.
- Participates in pharmacy orientation programs, training programs for pharmacy personnel, pharmacy staff meetings and in-service education programs.
- Assists in maintaining the cleanliness and orderliness of the pharmacy.
- Collects pertinent patient information.
- Issues supplies to other departments.
- Assists in stocking control (managing inventory, pricing, and usage).
- Picks up and delivers drug orders.
- Assists with medication charges.
- Assists with CQI data collection and monitoring.
- Compounds sterile medications under pharmacist’s guidance.
- Restocks automated dispensing systems under pharmacist’s guidance.
- Maintains and cares for equipment and supplies. Documents maintenance and repairs.
- Satisfactorily qualifies for the position through an Iowa Criminal History/Dependent Adult Abuse check within the limits of applicable laws.

Working Conditions
Usually pleasant working conditions in climate-controlled conditions. Occasionally subjected to irregular hours. Subjected to stressful interpersonal interaction. Subject to interruptions.
Required PPE
Must abide by USP797 and USP800 requirements.
