Company Overview: At StitchLab, we are a leading after school program that empowers teenagers with design skills and fosters their creativity in the realm of fashion design. Our program provides hands-on learning experiences and opportunities for young individuals to explore their artistic passions, learn essential design techniques, and develop practical skills in screen printing, embroidery, and graphic design. We are seeking a talented and enthusiastic Graphic Designer to join our team and contribute to the growth and success of our fashion design program.
Position Overview: As a Graphic Designer for our creative fashion design after school program, you will play a vital role in teaching and inspiring teenagers in the art of design implementation, graphic creation, and visual storytelling. You will collaborate closely with students, educators, and industry professionals to create engaging learning experiences and help students develop their design skills. Proficiency in screen printing, embroidery, Photoshop, and heat press techniques is highly desirable as you will contribute to the diverse skill set of our program. Must be available evening as most programming hours are from 3-7pm. Programs are 2 -3 hours but instructors are always paid for a minimum of 4 hours.
Positions are Part-Time 3-4 days a week
Competitive Pay between $25 per hr
Responsibilities:
Curriculum Development: Create and enhance the graphic design curriculum for our after school program, ensuring it aligns with industry trends and best practices. Develop lessons, projects, and assignments that encourage creativity, problem-solving, and hands-on learning.
Graphic Design Instruction: Teach students various graphic design techniques, including concept development, layout design, color theory, typography, and digital design tools such as Photoshop. Foster a supportive and inclusive learning environment that promotes experimentation and skill development.
Screen Printing and Embroidery Skills: Instruct students in the fundamentals of creative printing DTG, DTF Vinyl Printing, Screen Printing and Embroidery, including techniques, equipment operation, and best practices. Demonstrate the application of these skills in the context of fashion design. Will train but some knowledge is a plus,
Design Project Guidance: Provide guidance and mentorship to students as they work on design projects, helping them refine their ideas, overcome challenges, and develop their personal style. Encourage critical thinking and creative problem-solving throughout the design process.
Collaboration: Foster collaborative experiences by coordinating with fashion designers, industry professionals, and other educators to create opportunities for students to work on real-world design projects. Organize guest speakers and workshops to expose students to diverse perspectives and industry insights.
Portfolio Development: Support students in creating and curating their design portfolios, providing feedback and guidance to help them showcase their skills and personal brand effectively.
Requirements:
- Proven experience as a Graphic Designer with expertise in fashion design, screen printing, embroidery, and Photoshop.
- Strong knowledge of design principles, typography, color theory, and layout design.
- Proficiency in graphic design software such as Canva, Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign).
- Familiarity with screen printing, embroidery equipment, and heat press techniques.
- Excellent communication and presentation skills to effectively instruct and inspire students.
- Passion for design, creativity, and a desire to mentor and develop young talent.
- Strong organizational skills to plan and execute curriculum and projects effectively.
- Must have reliable transportation.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Previous teaching or mentoring experience in a design-related field.
- Familiarity with other design software and tools relevant to the fashion industry.
- Experience working on collaborative design projects or fashion collections.
- Knowledge of current fashion trends and industry practices.
