This is an full-time direct hire on-site position for Bloomington-Normal area, M-F
Overview:
We are currently seeking a dedicated Controller to join a local organization. As a Controller you will be responsible for ensuring the accuracy, integrity, and compliance of our financial records across a wide range of accounting functions.
This role is crucial in maintaining the financial health of the organization and ensuring alignment with accounting standards, internal controls, and best practices.
You will be responsible for managing key financial areas such as accounts receivable, inventory, cash management, prepaid expenses, fixed assets, accounts payable, accruals, and debt.
This position requires strong leadership skills, a solid understanding of accounting principles, and the ability to communicate financial data effectively to non-financial stakeholders.
Duties:
Review of all bank reconciliation, outstanding large deposits or checks and discuss adjustments or questions with bookkeeper for reconciliating items
- Adjustment for investment account for monthly interest income/dividends or realized gains
- Review of monthly AR aging reports, inquiries, and review of older balances 60-90 days balances for accuracy of balances and collection status.
- Analysis and comparison month over month and discussion on fluctuations with the bookkeeper.
- Reconciliation of subledgers to trial balance
- Review of credits related to any slotting or charge backs and discussions with the bookkeeper.
- Reconciliation of worksheets for certain customers with large slotting and chargeback amounts
- Review of inventory reports by each category finished good, raw materials, retail, packaging and other misc. inventory items.
- Review of count sheets and cost compared to prior month to make sure amounts are correct
- Accrual of cost for inventory invoices not posted yet but received in inventory before month end
- Review of freight invoices to validate freight in and freight out classifications on the monthly financials.
- Review of inventory counts and change month over month
- Review of timing of inventory purchases and adjustments for prepaid inventory if applicable during the month
- Review of invoices paid in the month to make sure is prepaid, calculation of prepaid lead sheets for monthly expense adjustment and tracking of prepaid expenses and insurance balances.
- Review of invoices provided by Janna for prepaids to validate dates and cut off for prepaids.
- Review of insurance policies when renewed to set up prepaid schedule throughout the policy period
- Commissions accruals and review of monthly schedule to confirm commissions
- Payroll accrual & reconciliation
- Adjustments related to chargebacks for financials to break out expenses and chargebacks
- Review of payments posted on GL and adjustments for interest and principal breakdown
- Preparation of Financials and cashflow statements
- Analysis and comparison monthly/quarterly and year to data Metrics report shared with management for certain KPIs monthly
Experience:
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance required is preferred
- Proven leadership experience in financial management, budgeting, and forecasting. AP/AP/QuickBooks
- Familiarity with financial report writing and analysis.
- Strong knowledge of accounting software and proficiency in Microsoft Excel.
- Excellent communication skills and ability to work collaboratively with cross-functional teams.
- Detail-oriented with a strategic mindset to drive financial decision-making.
