Job Description

RC Andersen, part of the STO Building Group, is seeking a Controller in Fairfield, NJ. The basic function of the Controller is to manage the financial department and provide information about the Company activities that will assist management, corporate leadership, and other users in making educated economic decisions about the Company’s future.

Requirements

  • Education- Required: BS degree in Accounting
  • Licensing / Registration / Certification- Preferred: CPA (or CPA eligible) or CCIFP designation.

Experience

  • Required: 5 years of professional accounting experience with supervisory experience.
  • Preferred: 7 years of professional accounting experience with supervisory experience.

Skills / Knowledge / Abilities

  • Position requires excellent managerial/supervisory skills.
  • Able to approach problem-solving both logically and creatively.
  • Excellent verbal, interpersonal, leadership, and written communication skills.
  • Knowledge of construction industry accounting practices.
  • Ability to train and develop staff members.
  • Experience with sales and use tax calculations and accruals for multiple states.
  • Experience working with accounting software, knowledge of CMiC is preferred.
  • Proven success working in a collaborative, team environment.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities without supervision, work under pressure, meet tight deadlines, and be able to thrive in a fast-paced work environment of a growing corporation.
  • Technical knowledge of accounts payable best practices.
  • Advanced computer skills, including proficiencies in Microsoft Office with a strong knowledge of Excel.
  • Experience dealing with banks and financial institutions.
  • Must be able to comprehend business math, calculators and interpret data from various sources. Advanced computer skills are desired.

Working Conditions

  • Work will be in a climate-controlled office. Workdays will be 8 to 10 hours per day with some early morning or late evening meetings.
  • Some travel, up to 10% may be required.

Essential Functions

  • Oversee the day-to-day financial operations of AP/AR, job cost accounting, overhead, and cash flow management.
  • Day-to-day management of cash activities.
  • Develop and maintain the system of internal accounting controls.
  • Assist with the annual audits and job-specific audits.
  • Maintain calculations of burden rates and supporting details.
  • Maintain state registrations, business and tax licenses, etc.
  • Assist with various research projects, as needed.
  • Trouble shooting and resolution of system issues.
  • Setting departmental goals and measuring success.
  • Recruiting and retaining quality employees.
  • Maintain a good relationship with vendors, customers, peers, and subordinates.
  • Keep Chief Financial Officer informed on day-to-day departmental activities.
  • Maintain confidentiality for records under your control
  • Maintain and improve technological education.

Duties And Responsibilities

  • Manage the A/P function and staff.
  • Manage the account receivable function.
  • Approve weekly check runs.
  • May be asked to assist in the preparation of financial statement schedules.
  • Prepares weekly and daily cash flow forecasts as required.
  • Oversees all petty cash activity, reconciliation and requests for funding.
  • Ensures staff is trained and properly verifies that subcontractor and vendor Certificates of Insurance are valid/up to date. Acts as point of contract to resolve issues as needed.
  • Responsible for closing out and balancing the books monthly.
  • Ensure that all monthly and quarterly payroll tax reports are filed in a timely manner.
  • Update and maintain accurate financial reports.
  • Prepare annual 1099 forms.
  • Manage and account for our electronic banking activities, including wire transfers.
  • Perform monthly closeouts.
  • Develop and maintain the Company’s accounts payable policies and procedures manual.
  • Coordinate the owner billing process with the accounting team.
  • Audit to ensure correct GL account number coding and approvals are utilized by accounts payable staff.
  • Train and supervise accounts payable staff to ensure timely and accurate processing of payments through obtaining proper and approved invoices, committing documents, backup information and lien releases.
  • Ensure accounting department recordkeeping is organized and accurate, and records are easily accessible, with proper backup information.
  • Handles inquiries regarding invoice status and administers vendor holds and back-charges.
  • Resolves questions and complaints from internal departments and/or external business partners.

Compensation: In addition to base pay, eligible for discretionary bonus based on company and individual performance.
