Brief Job Overview/Summary
The Richard E. Bjork Library at Stockton University is seeking an individual who, under close direction of a Supervising Library Assistant or observation by a Senior Library Assistant, performs routine non-professional library work of a varied nature directly related to the acquisition, organization, maintenance, and distribution of library materials; does related work as required.
Descriptions of Essential Duties/Responsibilities:
- Shelves and shifts books and other library materials as required and maintains shelving in an orderly condition
- Charges and discharges books and other library materials; records fines
- Prepares and forwards overdue notices and other routine library forms
- Covers the circulation desk during scheduled hours, courteously offering service and first line reference assistance to patrons
- Opens and closes the library according to unit procedures
- Operates circulation management and other library systems to facilitate borrowing and returning library items and assisting patrons in locating and retrieving library materials
- Verify student enrollment and graduation status and correctly place or remove library holds using the university’s online student databases
- Conduct searches for material not found on shelves
- Assists other essential collection maintenance duties as needed
Required Qualifications
- High School diploma or equivalent
- Technical and electronic familiarity to utilize various electronic and information systems used by the library
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Ability to solve problems encountered in a library clerical work and the methods likely to be effective in working with varied persons
- Excellent customer service skills
- Excellent organizational skills required for working with library filing and classification systems, and maintaining detailed records
- Ability to work respectfully and harmoniously with associates, superior officers, and other library patrons
- Ability to follow established procedures and regulations
