In this role, you will lead accounting and bookkeeping activities, including overseeing accounts payable, payroll, general ledger, reconciliation, and problem-solving. You'll be responsible for preparing and defending financial statements, ensuring compliance with industry standards, and developing internal controls to safeguard company assets.
As a Controller, you'll play a key role in supporting clients with onboarding, addressing financial issues, and providing proactive solutions. You'll leverage your experience in project/WIP accounting and financial management to create job schedules, perform variance analysis, and deliver actionable insights to help businesses grow. Strong leadership skills and the ability to manage a team while meeting deadlines will be critical to your success.
What You'll Be Doing:
- Oversee accounting and bookkeeping for multiple clients, ensuring timely and accurate financials.
- Lead staff on Accounts Payable, Payroll, General Ledger, and Reconciliation projects.
- Prepare and defend monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements.
- Manage project/WIP accounting and create End of Period Job Schedules.
- Ensure compliance with construction industry financial regulations and standards.
- Develop and enforce internal controls to prevent fraud or mismanagement.
- Manage payroll tax filings and perform balance sheet reconciliations.
- Address client inquiries, provide ongoing support, and resolve financial issues.
- Assist with client onboarding and catch-up accounting/bookkeeping tasks.
What We're Looking For:
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
- Experience in controllership or senior roles within the construction industry.
- Deep understanding of construction accounting, job costing, and project-based financial management.
- Strong knowledge of financial regulations, laws, and industry reporting standards.
- Exceptional analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to manage multiple projects and track open items effectively.
- Excellent communication and client service skills, with a focus on delivering results.
- Proficient in Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel, and advanced accounting platforms (non-QuickBooks).
- Strong leadership abilities with experience in managing a team.
