Quality Assurance Supervisor
Purpose and Scope of Position
The QA Supervisor is responsible for supervision of the Food Safety and Quality (FSQA) personnel and the Food Safety and Quality System. This position analyzes process reports and troubleshoots problems to correct food safety and quality issues and has supervisory responsibilities over the QA Technicians and Sanitation team in the implementation and daily execution of our food safety and quality procedures. Other responsibilities include ensuring compliance with regulatory and customer requirements and company policies and procedures, engaging everyone in the organization to strive for the highest standards of food safety and quality every day, monitoring and ensuring continuous improvement of the Food Safety and Quality system, and helping develop the QA team.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Coordinates and supervises the activities of the Food Safety & Quality Assurance (FSQA) team for implementation of quality and food safety programs and all related procedures.
- Recommend modifications to food safety and quality policies and procedures as necessary to ensure safe quality products.
- Communicate programs and procedures to FSQA team and other plant team members by conducting training.
- Interfaces with facility team to assist in problem solving using root cause analysis when investigating daily personnel and processing incidents.
- Ensures quality programs are executed and communicates issues to assure the plant is complying with customer specifications.
- Complete additional tasks as directed by the QA Manager
- Manage the team of hourly QA Technicians including managing & scheduling.
- Follows all company food safety and quality related policies and report non-compliances to the QA Manager
- Ensures all operations and quality assurance activities are performed in adherence to FDA cGMPs.
- Ensures adherence to Food Safety, Quality, and Sanitation SOPs
- Reports on key performance indicators for Food Safety and Quality
- Directly supervises the QA Technicians
- Ensures food safety and quality inspections, batch record review, and other quality assurance tasks are completed appropriately.
- Supervises quality receiving/inspection and quality label/labeling operations.
- Responsible for interviewing, hiring, training, goal development and performance management; including any necessary disciplinary actions.
- Develops and maintains inspection procedures.
- Ensures that all inspections, line checks, verifications, and test procedures are properly completed and documented.
- Helps drive a culture of Food Safety, Quality, and Continuous Improvement
- Ensure batch records and related documents are reviewed to ensure quality and compliance.
- Rejects and helps to dispose of non-conforming products.
- Helps investigate non-conforming events and deviations. Help determine product impact. Helps identify and implement corrective and preventive actions.
- Supports the review and approval of validation documents as assigned.
- Helps ensure adequate facility controls are in place, following the Food Safety Plan and Preventive Controls
- Conduct environmental monitoring, swabbing and product testing activities, collect samples for shipping, and record testing results.
- Responsibility for final product approval & release
- Assist in management of discarded/rejected product waste.
- Assists the QA Manager in ensuring food safety and quality related work orders are followed up, documented, updated & completed by the Maintenance Department
- Assist the QA Manager with regulatory and 3rd party inspections, Kosher, Organic, Non-GMO, SQF, and customer audits.
- Assists in the review of artwork, label approval, and nutritional ingredient statements and labels, prior to approval by the QA Manager
- Identify and record any problems relating to Food Safety and the Quality of the ingredients, processes, or finished products.
- Performs QA or Sanitation Technician functions when they are absent.
Qualifications
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- High School Diploma/GED required. Associate or bachelor’s Degree preferred in a relevant field (Food Science, Nutrition, etc.)
- At least 3 years’ related experience and/or training or equivalent combination of education and training
- 2 years of supervisory experience required.
- The PCQI Certification is desirable and SQF Practitioner Certification is preferred.
- Proficient computer skills such as Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, etc.)
- Working knowledge of FDA cGMP regulations (21 CFR 117) and quality systems regulations/requirements
- Effective communication skills at all levels, both written and verbal; both individually and in a group setting
- Strong skills in analytical thinking and problem solving.
- Ability to perform multiple tasks and ability to effectively manage conflict.
- Ability to work in teams to obtain results.
- Proactively identify issues and act
- Good decision-making skills. Ability to make decisions autonomously with limited information.

- May occasionally lift to 50 pounds independently or with assistance.
Salary : $55,000 - $75,000
