Job Summary
Title: Lifeguard (Non-Exempt) Reports to: Athletic Director-TJ Faeth
Summary of Responsibilities:
The Lifeguard is responsible for the effective and safe operation of duBois Beach daily from Memorial Day Weekend to Labor Day. The beach will be staffed weekends only when school is in session. When school is out the beach will be open only daily between Memorial Day and Labor Day, weather permitting.
In the event of inclement or “iffy” weather, the Lifeguard will report to the beach unless they are notified by the Athletic Director or Head Lifeguard that the beach is closed or that it will have a delayed opening. The Lifeguard may be asked to perform other duties at the Community Center until such time as the beach may reopen.
Qualifications:
- American Red Cross Lifeguard Training Certification
- American Red Cross First Aid Certification
- American Red Cross CPR Certification
Knowledge and skills:
- Thorough knowledge and application of lifeguard surveillance and rescue techniques
- An understanding of beach characteristics, rules, policies, and procedures
- Leadership and public relations skills
- Strong decision-making skills
Specific duties:
- Responsible for the safety and welfare of patrons of duBois Beach during assigned hours
- Recognize and respond effectively in emergencies
- Enforce all beach policies, rules and regulations
- Maintain beach: seaweed removal, sand raking, trash pickup and other tasks that keep the beach in pristine condition
- Maintain safety equipment
- Represent the Stonington Community Center in a professional, helpful, pleasant manner
- Positive and friendly interaction with beach patrons
- Must wear at all times while on duty, suits and shirts that clearly identify your status as a lifeguard
