Position Description:
The Nurse Practitioner in the Cardiology Department provides quality service by performing a variety of functions and technical procedures necessary for the admission of patients that are scheduled for cardiac catheterization, electrophysiology studies, stress tests, echos and chest pain (observation patients). The Nurse Practitioner works in conjunctions with the Cardiologist to provide consultation to in-patients.The processes of assessment, diagnosis, treatment, follow-up, and outcome evaluation is utilized. The nurse practitioner is an independent health care provider who will work closely in collaboration with the Medical Director of Cardiology and physicians of the Cardiology Department.The Cardiology NP will deliver quality care in preparing cardiology patients for invasive cardiac procedures (cardiac cath/EP), echo and stress testing, evaluating and treating cardiac pts, obtaining consents, and following patients post cardiac catheterization as well as admitting and discharging patients from the cardiology service. The NP will assist in growing the Cardiology line of services at Stony Brook Southampton Hospital.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Master’s in Nursing Degree and completion of a Nurse Practitioner Program, required
- New York State Licensed Registered Professional Nurse and Nurse Practitioner. Nurse Practitioner National Board Certification in specialty area required
- Completion of a pharmacology component of not less than three (3) semester hours or the equivalent and has been instructed in NYS laws relating to prescription and record keeping (3-hour course). This course usually completed within NP curriculum.
- Previous experience relevant to the area of cardiology, and prescriptive privileges in NYS
- Current BLS/ACLS/PALS provider certification from the American Heart Association required

The starting salary range (or hiring range) for this position has been established based on relevant experience
