Brief Description Of Duties
In this role, the successful Clinical Nurse Educator candidate will assume a major role in the orientation of new nursing personnel. The Clinical Nurse Educator is responsible for the orientation process from the classroom to the clinical area by working with the orientee and the preceptor. The role of the Clinical Nurse Educator is that of educator, facilitator, change agent, consultant, researcher and leader. The roles emerge from ANA Scope and Standard of Practice for Nursing Professional Development.

Located in the heart of the village of Southampton, two hours from New York City, the hospital provides healthcare services to a diverse community of year-round residents, second homeowners and vacationers. The population, about 75,000 in the winter months, increases sharply to more than 300,000 in the summer. Special Skills Or Educational Requirements
- Current license to practice Professional Nursing in New York State
- BSN required
- Master’s Degree preferred or enrolled in Master’s Program
- 5 years of acute nursing care with experience as Diabetic Nurse Educator
- BLS and ACLS certification provider from the American Heart Association required
- PALS certification provider from the American Heart Association preferred
- Demonstrates knowledge of relevant educational content, including knowledge of teaching and learning theories, principles of adult education, testing, measurement, and evaluation
- Ability to communicate effectively with all levels in the organization
- Demonstrates high level of computer skills
- Stony Brook Medicine is a smoke-free environment. Smoking is strictly prohibited anywhere on campus, including parking lots and outdoor areas on the premises
- All Hospital positions maybe subject to changes in pass days and shifts as necessary
- This position may require the wearing of respiratory protection, which may prohibit the wearing of facial hair
- This function/position maybe designated as “essential.” This means that when the Hospital is faced with an institutional emergency, employees in such positions may be required to remain at their work location or to report to work to protect, recover, and continue operations at Stony Brook Medicine, Stony Brook Southampton H ospital and related facilities
- Successfully complete pre-employment physical examination and obtain medical clearance from Stony Brook Southampton Hospital's Employee Health Services*
- Complete electronic reference check with a minimum of three (3) professional references
- Successfully complete a 4 panel drug screen*
- Meet Regulatory Requirements for pre-e mployment screenings
- Provide a copy of any required New York State license(s)/certificate(s)
- The Human Resources department will be responsible for any fee incurred for examination .
