Nurse Educator - Nursing Education (Per Diem Day)
Position Summary
In this role, the successful Clinical Nurse Educator candidate will assume a major role in the orientation of new nursing personnel. The Clinical Nurse Educator is responsible for the orientation process from the classroom to the clinical area by working with the orientee and the preceptor. The role of the Clinical Nurse Educator is that of educator, facilitator, change agent, consultant, researcher and leader. The roles emerge from ANA Scope and Standard of Practice for Nursing Professional Development.
Duties of a Nurse Manager may include the following but are not limited to:
Serve as a role model and leader to staff, behaving in a way that is consistent with Hospital values and sets a positive example
Collaborates and cooperates across departments and disciplines to solve problems and facilitate processes
Fosters open, direct communication between personnel, patients, and physicians for the betterment of patient care and the professional environment
Responsible for the direction, supervision, and coordinator of all nursing activities relating to patient care in his/her unit
Enforces high patient care standards and satisfaction
Acts as a teacher and mentor to staff, helping personnel to develop global perspectives, critical thinking, and clinical skills
Ensures adequate resources through accurate forecasting and close monitoring of supplies
Monitors operating and capital expenditures, including equipment, payroll, and overtime usage
Acts as the decision maker and takes responsibility for both the successes and the failures of a unit
Required Qualifications:
Current licensure to practice professional nursing in New York State
Minimum 5 year's experience in Emergency Department and/or Critical Care
Progressive leadership experience
Willingness for continued learning
Excellent organizational, interpersonal, communication and multitasking skills
Standing/walking 50% of the time
Ability to occasionally lift heavy objects
Bachelor’s degree, preferably in nursing
BLS, ACLS, PALS certifications through the American Heart Association
TNCC certification
Preferred Qualifications:
Masters degree in nursing or related field

The starting salary range (or hiring range) for this position has been established based on relevant experience

Successfully complete pre-employment physical examination and obtain medical clearance from Stony Brook Southampton's Employee Health Services*

- Meet Regulatory Requirements for pre-employment screenings
- Provide a copy of any required New York State license(s)/certificate(s)
