A Brief Overview
The Exercise Technician assists the RNs and Exercise Physiologists with the monitoring of cardiac patients and patients with peripheral artery disease during their outpatient stay in the Cardiac Rehabilitation program located within Stormont-Vail Health Cardiac Imaging and Rehabilitation. Responsibilities include assessment before, during and after exercise for appropriate hemodynamic response. The Exercise Technician has a basic understanding of cardiovascular anatomy, physiology, disease, risk factors, and heart rhythm disorders and recognizes inappropriate blood pressure responses.

Education Qualifications

Associate's Degree Degree in exercise science. CNA, MA, or EMT certification can be substituted for education. Required


Experience Qualifications

1 year Working in a cardiology or an exercise setting Preferred


Skills and Abilities

Must successfully complete: 1) Exercise Technician Checklist, 2) attend the Dysrhythmia Class and pass the written test within 90 days of hire and 3) Pass the department specific EKG identification test with a minimum score of 90%. (Required proficiency)


Licenses and Certifications

  • Certified Nurse Aide - KDADS Education may be substituted for certification. Required or
  • Registered Medical Assistant - AMT Education may be substituted for certification. Required or
  • Emergency Medical Technician - KBEMS Education may be substituted for certification. Required


What you will do

  • Schedules patients for outpatient cardiac rehabilitation.
  • Enters patient charges for Phase II sessions and collect Phase III payments; gives patient receipt and sends money to HSD business office.
  • Assists patients with exercise equipment as needed.
  • Monitors patients’ EKG rhythm throughout Phase II rehabilitation session.
  • Assesses patients’ response to exercise via blood pressure measurements before, during and after exercise.
  • Get patient's vitals, height and weight
  • Scan patient charts into medical records.
  • Gather supplies and put them away in storage.
  • Performs data entry for the Montana Outcomes Data Registry.
