What are the responsibilities and job description for the Controls Engineer - Packaging Systems Integration position at Storopack?
General Purpose
Work closely with field sales, product development and service personnel to develop and design solutions for packaging delivery systems. These systems will integrate STOROpack® packaging solutions with customers packaging process in an effective, efficient and ergonomic manner. These may be related to electrical, mechanical, packaging and safety. Establish a strong working relationship with service center associates, sales, field service technicians and suppliers in order to facilitate design and assembly of finished products.
Responsibilities
- Understand fully the Storopack solutions to include machines and materials.
- Understand their business needs and recommend solutions using STOROpack® solutions.
- Develop and illustrate integration concepts that are suitable for specific customers’ processes. Recommend changes to customers’ workflows and processes as needed.
- Establish relationship with key suppliers to maintain competitive advantages for STOROpack solutions.
- Analyze requirements and estimate cost benefits and value for integrations manufactured by STOROpack.
- Provide second level technical support to sales and field service technicians.
- Technical support for global Sales Team.
- Develop solutions using Storopack’s proven processes and methodologies.
- Responsibility for customized control system and machine safety systems design and evaluation.
- Experience in reading, creating, and editing electrical schematics using AutoCAD Electrical.
- Advanced PLC HMI Programming ability.
- Advanced Programming using “C” languages (structured text programming).
- Experience with motion control systems.
- Experience with vision systems (sensors, cameras, evaluation algorithms).
- Experience with robotic systems (Gantry, Articulated, etc.).
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent experience in electrical engineering or related field
- 3-4 years’ PLC software experience (Programming or troubleshooting) (required)
- Experience with PLC’s (Omron, Allen Bradley or Siemens preferred).
- 3-4 years’ experience using AutoCAD Electrical (preferred).
- 2-3 years’ experience designing and evaluating machine safety systems
- 2-3 years’ experience with conveyor control wiring and systems (preferred).

- Ability to move around equipment/conveyors in order to identify customer current layout vs. revised and improved layout.
- Ability to stand and work for extended periods of time.
- Ability to work in warm/hot non-air-conditioned environment.
- Physically cable of lifting parts and equipment up to 40 lbs. (without assistance).
- Ability to travel to customer locations, as required.
