We are seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented Welding Inspector to ensure compliance with industry standards, project specifications, and safety regulations. The ideal candidate will be responsible for inspecting welds, verifying compliance with API 1104 and ASME codes, and maintaining accurate documentation throughout the project lifecycle.
Compensation:
- $25-$35 per hour, depending on skills and years of experience
- $150 Full Per Diem provided seven days a week
Key Responsibilities:
Inspection & Compliance:
- Ensure pipe stencil information, including wall thickness, grade, and heat numbers, are transferred to any cut pipe joint using permanent paint sticks.
- Verify that all welds have been visually inspected before non-destructive testing (NDT) to ensure compliance with applicable codes (API 1104 or ASME).
- Review NDT results with the radiographer to confirm compliance with GOM 20.10.60.
- Work alongside NDT technicians to prepare daily NDT reports on repair and cut-out welds, ensuring proper tracking and verification of all weld repairs.
- Record material heat numbers and weld IDs on weld maps/redline drawings.
- Provide basic dimensions on redlines for station piping; ensure buried piping dimensions allow for location after backfilling.
- Maintain records of main piping elevations, both above and below grade.
- Confirm proper wall thickness transitions at pipe thickness changes.
- Verify pipe line-ups conform to project specifications and UGI Standards.
- Inspect fabrication dimensions and fitting orientations against project drawings.
- Monitor and verify pre-heat and interpass temperatures for compliance.
- Ensure proper fitting and pipe grades are used in construction.
- Confirm tagged valves are correctly placed in designated lines.
- Review radiographer qualifications and x-ray results for adherence to UGI Standards.
- Ensure minimal stress on aligned pipes and confirm clamps/wedge chocks are installed per manufacturer recommendations.
Documentation & Reporting:
- Maintain a register of approved welding procedures utilized during the project.
- Ensure accurate completion of UGI Welding Inspection Reports.
- Track and document heat numbers for all pipe and fittings.
- Develop and update weld maps throughout the project.
- Maintain up-to-date redlined drawings and verify completeness at project completion.
- Review x-ray reader sheets and NDT technician certifications.
- Maintain a register of all Welding Inspectors assigned to the project.
- Document work areas through photography at various project stages.
- Track sign-in and sign-out times for all external entities, including government inspectors and regulatory agencies.
- Notify the designated Owner’s Representative upon arrival of any third-party or regulatory agency on-site.
Qualifications & Requirements:
- Certified Welding Inspector (CWI) certification required.
- Minimum 3 years of experience in welding inspection, preferably in pipeline or industrial projects.
- Proficiency in reading and interpreting blueprints, drawings, and welding codes.
- Strong understanding of API 1104, ASME, and UGI welding standards.
- Experience with NDT processes, including radiographic testing (RT), ultrasonic testing (UT), magnetic particle testing (MT), and dye penetrant testing (PT).
- Excellent attention to detail and documentation skills.
- Strong communication and teamwork abilities.
- Proficiency in using inspection tools and software for tracking welds and documentation.
