What are the responsibilities and job description for the Student Minister position at Storyline Church?
TITLE: Student Minister
REPORTS TO: Director of Family Discipleship
DEPARTMENT: Family Discipleship
SUMMARY:
The primary purpose of this position is to help lead and oversee student ministry (6th-12th grade) at Storyline Church. This role will serve on the Family Discipleship team and will be responsible for helping to develop and implement discipleship environments for middle and high school students in accordance with the overall mission, vision, values, and strategies of the church.
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
Plan and Execute Student Discipleship Environments
- Provide organizational, teaching, and spiritual leadership for weekly Student Night programming
- Coordinating volunteers, planning services, and caring for leaders
- Alongside the Director of Family Discipleship, develop and implement curriculum for Storyline Students that aligns with our scope and sequence for 6th-12th grade
- When necessary, write curriculum for small groups & large groups within Student gatherings
- Grow a team of teachers to support Storyline Staff in opportunities for large-group teaching
Oversee Student Events & Milestones
- Welcoming kids & families into Storyline Students from Storyline Kids
- Active participant in Family Discipleship Milestones
- Organize and execute events including, but not limited to:
- Student Camp
- Winter Retreat
- Other Tier 2 Student Events
Disciple Students
- Meet with students regularly for discipleship and community
- Organize and facilitate regular Bible study opportunities for students that align with the overall mission of Storyline (ie: MBS, WBS)
- Recruit and train a team of leaders who can lead Student Tables in MBS, WBS, and TSI
- Identify families/homes in strategic areas to host Bible Studies for students before or after school
- Integrate yourself into the lives of students outside of Storyline-specific events (ex. Attending sporting events, meals with families, school plays, FCA, etc.)
- Continue to foster and build a culture of Students serving in the local church
- Work alongside Storyline Kids team to onboard and train students who serve within the church
Onboard, Support and Care for Student Ministry Leaders
- Use the onboarding process to introduce new leaders to serving with students
- Continue to update procedures, videos, and other training materials for student ministry volunteers
- Regular opportunities for leaders to experience:
- Ministry specific training
- Team Bonding
- Weekly Volunteer Communication
Encourage, equip, and invest in parents of Students at Storyline
- Communicate regularly with parents
- Meet parents regularly to discuss the discipleship of their students
- Alongside the Director of Family Discipleship, create tools to equip families in the discipleship of their students
RELATIONSHIP WITH THE STORYLINE TEAM:
- I report to: Director of Family Discipleship
- I receive input from: Director of Family Discipleship
- I work with: Family Discipleship Team
- I lead: Storyline Parents of Students, Storyline Students, Student Ministry Volunteers
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Member of Storyline Church
- A daily pursuit of Christian Maturity
- Agree with & live in alignment with Storyline Statement of Faith
- Experience serving with Students in a Church or para-church ministry setting
- Ability to teach the Scripture to groups of students with excellence
- Decisive and proven leader with the ability to encourage, empower, and coach other leaders and volunteer teams
- Organized, strong delegator and follow-through, ability to cast and execute discipleship vision
- Ability to develop and organize effective ministry teams made up of staff and volunteer leaders
- Ability to create a positive and intentional leadership culture
- Proficiency in GSuite, Microsoft Office, and Planning Center
