SUMMARY
Performs all responsibilities and duties of a Mechanic Journeyman. Directly assists the crew by coordinating work activities and any other duties as assigned by the supervisor, including interfacing with other departments, and assisting with crew work assignments, pre and post job briefings, and resolving maintenance technical issues. Accepts Temporary Supervisor assignments as requested.
EDUCATION
- High School / GED or equivalent (Required)
- Associates degree in a related mechanical field (science, mathematics, technology, or equivalent). (Preferred)
- Without the above requirements, relevant experience may be considered.
EXPERIENCE
5 Years maintenance-related experience in the mechanical field, of which one year must be journeyman level experience at the South Texas Project (Preferred).Associates degree equivalent to 1 year of experience.Three of the five years can be fulfilled by the Accredited Apprentice Program.LICENSE / CERTIFICATIONS

Performs all responsibilities and duties of a Mechanic Journeyman, Lead, and Temp Supervisor as needed.
JOURNEYMAN :
Performs testing and repair functions on mechanical equipment to ensure equipment meets vendor and plant technical specifications. Works to plant procedures, policies, and Nuclear Regulatory Commission requirements.
Performs all aspects of maintenance and repair on a wide variety of pumps, including removal, installation, alignment, seal rework, bearing and shaft replacement, lubrication, inspection, and troubleshooting.Performs all aspects of valve maintenance and repair on all types and sizes of valves, including removal, installation, teardown, rebuild, seal, seat and disc replacement, lubrication, inspection, and troubleshooting.Performs all aspects of piping maintenance and repair including gasket replacement, fabricating, installing, and aligning piping, and torquing fasteners.Performs all aspects of engine maintenance and repair on various type and size engines including all engine subsystems.Performs all aspects of turbine and diesel engine maintenance and repair.Provides support for refueling activities including but not limited to reactor head removal / installation, cavity gate removal and installation, transfer cart repair, and new fuel receipt.LEAD :
Supervises crew personnel in the performance of their duties as directed by the crew supervisor.
Provides peer oversight.Promotes a safety conscious work environment.Promotes and encourages quality craftsmanship in all activities.Maintains proficiency in diagnosing material conditions.TEMPORARY SUPERVISOR :
Stands in as a Temporary Supervisor as requested by division management. This will be done in accordance with the bargaining unit agreement.
Accepts and follows established work rules, codes, and standards outlined in the Conduct of Maintenance.Delivers steady performance and supports the plant.Distributes work packages and supervises work as needed.Performs administrative functions such as time sheets and ordering parts.Provides peer oversight.Ensures housekeeping areas are maintained and meet expectations (i.e., work areas, storage sheds, storage cabinets and shop work areas).Receives and comprehends general and specialized training; is accountable for maintaining all earned certifications; provides training and evaluates job performance to certify others.OTHER RESPONSIBILITIES

Environmental and physical requirements require the ability to don appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) for the defined role; subject to crouching, stooping, bending, twisting and / or lifting up 30 lbs; ascending / descending stairs; ascending, descending, traversing ladders, scaffolds, stairs; working in confined spaces; moving safely over uneven or slippery terrain; working in proximity to loud equipment and possible inclement weather / temperature conditions.WORKING CONDITIONS
Overtime and alternate work schedules as needed.Subject to callouts twenty-four hours per day seven days per week.Occasional requirement to work on and around energized power plant equipment.WORKING CONDITIONS
Site - Due to the nature of the work, this position requires work to be performed in the field and / or at the work site.Human Resources is located on the southeast corner of the NSC on the 2nd floor.
