Role: Paraprofessional
Primary Purpose: To provide academic and/or social assistance to students. Includes regular
education, special education, and/or 504 support in a variety of settings depending on specific
assignment.
Status: Full and Part Time Positions - This position is designated as a Paraprofessional position
subject to the Paraprofessionals’ Collective Bargaining Agreement, School Board Policy, and
School Rules and Regulations.
Minimum Qualifications: Possesses or is eligible for NH Paraprofessional Certificate I and
eventually II; Flexibility with change of tasks and/or assignments.
Certification Required: Certification or certifiable as a Paraprofessional by the State of New
Hampshire Department of Education
Reports To: Classroom and/or Special Education Teacher
Direct Reports: None
Key Task, Duty, Responsibility Areas:
● Assist the teacher in devising special strategies for reinforcing material or skills based on
the understanding of individual students, their needs, interests and abilities.
● Help students with equipment or instructional materials assigned by the teacher.
● Assist with the supervision of students in and out of the classroom.
● Alert the respective classroom teacher to any problem or special information about an
individual student.
● Maintain regular communication with teacher(s).
● Maintain a high level of ethical behavior and confidentiality of information about
students.
● Participate in in-service training programs, as required/requested.
● Provide instruction to small groups or individual students.
● To become familiar with the required modifications and goals written into the
IEPs/504’s, if applicable.
● Provide academic support for all students or with the focus on special education and/or
504 students as assigned.
● Guided by the respective teacher and/or the IEP/504, provide appropriate
accommodations to materials.
● Assist in the administration of assessments, including accommodations.
● Collect anecdotal student information on a regular basis.
● Act as a nurturing and encouraging influence for students.

● Perform other duties that are characteristic of the responsibilities of a paraprofessionals.
These may be delegated by the building administrator or teacher.
Knowledge, Skills, and Talents:
● Requires knowledge in school rules, practices, and law; NH Department of Education
rules and school requirements; and School Board policy.
● Requires demonstration of strong collaborative, observational and coaching skills to
support student programming and work in a team setting; problem solving skills to
support student success; service-related people skills; verbal and written communication
skills; organizational skills; operational skills in office equipment and technological
instructional devices; technology skills in communication, student data management,
and analysis, and reporting, and other school requirements.
● Requires excellent attention to detail and follow through to meet school district
requirements, significant confidentiality responsibilities due to student and staff issues,
resource management, and fiscal responsibilities in the area of school budget.

objects weighing up to 30 pounds, such as supplies, folders, and books. Ability to
operate a keyboard and calculator at efficient speed and to view computer screens for
extended periods of time. Vision and hearing at or correctable to normal ranges.

Annual Summative Performance Evaluation Timeframe: Evaluation will be based on ability and
effectiveness in carrying out the responsibilities of the position as defined. Performance will be
reviewed annually by the assigned supervisor in accordance with School Board policy.
Background Check: Applicants will be subjected to a criminal background check required by
state law. Employee must pass background check to enable bonding by the district’s liability
insurance carrier.
