Job Title:         Teacher – English Language Learner (ELL)

Job Goal: The goal of this position is to coordinate the design and delivery of curriculum, instruction and assessments for students eligible for English Language Learner (ELL) services.

  1. Demonstrate aptitude or competence for assignment. 
  2. Demonstrates excellent verbal and written communication skills with colleagues/students/parents/community, including parent teacher conferences.
  3. Ability to collaborate with classroom teachers and inclusion teachers.
  4. Facilitate collaboration with parents to support ongoing planning and growth for the child’s academic and social success.
  5. Understands and demonstrates classroom management/instructional strategies to support student achievement.
  6. Knowledge of child and adolescent development.
  7. Knowledge of subject areas, curriculum, and standards-based education.
  8. Knowledge of the general organization and functions of a public school system.

 

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

 

  1. Plan for systematic and sustained language development alongside the academic demands of the content areas.
  2. Model high-impact teaching practices in your instruction to support both language and academic progress.
  3. Create opportunities for ELL students to engage actively with each other.
  4. Provide access for multilingual learners to rich, standards-based, grade-level content, including by scaffolding up.
  5. Manage the assessment and progress monitoring cycles for second language learners.
  6. Creates a positive classroom environment which upholds and enforces the school rules and is conducive to learning.
  7. Assesses the accomplishments of students on a regular basis and provides ELL plans & updated goals as required in a timely and confidential manner.
  8. Work with other professionals to determine special learning needs of students on a regular basis, seeking the assistance of specialists as required.
  9. Collaborates with colleagues, students, and/or parents on an ongoing basis concerning student academic and behavioral progress.
  10. Strives to maintain and improve professional competence and serves on staff committees as required.
  11. Perform other duties as assigned.
  12. Help with translation services.
  13. Help teachers adapt curriculum materials to make them accessible for students.
  14. Help students & teachers use appropriate technology to access course materials.
  15. Create ELL plans & communication with parents at least 3 times a year.

 

Qualifications / Certificates, Licenses, Registrations, Bonding, and or Testing Required:

 

  1. Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college or university.
  2. A valid Colorado Teaching Certificate endorsed in area of assignment.
  3. Such alternatives to the above as the Board of Education may find appropriate.

 

Physical Demands: Between sitting, standing, and walking throughout the day lifting up to 20 pounds on an occasional basis and 10 pounds on a frequent basis, occasionally stooping, kneeling, crouching, overhead reaching and fine motor activity, frequently sitting, standing, walking, balancing, reaching at desk and floor level, firm and simple grasping. The work requires constant seeing, hearing, and talking.

 

Work Environment: Work is performed in office, classroom and/or other educational setting.

 

FLSA Status: Exempt

 

Days / Terms of Employment: 180 Days / Nine-month position. Salary to be determined by the School Board of Education.
