POSITION PURPOSE: The Groundskeeper is responsible for maintaining the cleanliness, safety, and
overall appearance of indoor and outdoor facilities. This role involves performing routine
cleaning, sanitation, and maintenance tasks within buildings, as well as landscaping and
groundskeeping duties to ensure well-maintained and aesthetically pleasing outdoor spaces.
Responsibilities include sweeping, mopping, trash removal, restroom maintenance, lawn care, and
minor repairs to facilities and equipment. The Groundskeeper plays a key role in providing a clean,
safe, and welcoming environment for employees, residents, and visitors while adhering to safety
regulations and operational standards.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES
• Custodial Duties
• Sweep, mop, vacuum, and clean floors in buildings and common areas.
• Dust and wipe down furniture, surfaces, and fixtures.
• Empty trash and recycling bins and replace liners.
• Sanitize restrooms, including toilets, sinks, mirrors, and replenishing supplies.
• Clean windows, doors, and entryways as needed.
• Respond to spills, messes, and emergency cleanups in a timely manner.
• Monitor and report maintenance issues, such as leaks, damages, or needed repairs.
• Groundskeeping Duties
• Mow, trim, edge, and maintain lawns and landscaped areas.
• Water plants, trees, and flower beds as needed.
• Remove weeds, debris, leaves, and litter from outdoor areas.
• Maintain sidewalks, parking lots, and entryways, including snow/ice removal when necessary.
• Inspect and perform minor maintenance on outdoor structures such as benches, fences, and
signage.
• Operate and maintain groundskeeping tools and equipment safely.
• Engage with Guests in active conversation, inquiring if they need assistance, and assisting
Guests as needed.
• Assisting physically disabled Guests in boarding and disembarking train cars.
• Seasonal duties include but are not limited to landscaping, snow removal, and tending of coal
fires.
• Other duties as required.

• Consistently exhibits a positive, helpful attitude toward Guests, including the ability to speak
clearly and convey information accurately.
• Pays attention to detail, shows a desire to learn, and executes tasks as directed.
• Spreads accurate information about the railroad and its history to our Guests.
• Works well independently as well as with a team.
• Is self-motivated and demonstrates initiative.
• Presents a neat and clean appearance.
• Demonstrates a consistent eagerness to answer questions and always serve Guests or potential
customers with a positive attitude.
• Follows scheduling request policies.
• Responds in a timely fashion to supervisor or manager requests (e.g. regarding scheduling).
• Reports on time for work and meetings.
QUALIFICATIONS
• Self-motivated with a strong work ethic.
• Ability to work on his/her own or in teams.
• Written and oral communication should be accurate and professional.
• Detail-oriented organizational habits and the ability to prioritize tasks.
• Must be able to lift to 50 pounds.
WORKING CONDITIONS
• Rotating shifts and hours vary based on train operating schedules and availability. Start time
can vary anywhere from 3:45am-Noon (subject to change).
• Weekends and Holidays required.
• Work is primarily outdoors.
• Frequent walking and standing for long periods of time.
• Occasional lifting, bending, and twisting.
