Role Overview: At Strata, Automation Engineers are critical technical professionals responsible for developing, implementing, and maintaining software solutions that optimize operations and drive innovation for our valued clients. This role involves creating and customizing software applications, integrating systems, and ensuring automation platforms' reliability and efficiency. Our programmers apply their oil and gas industry expertise to support digitally integrated strategies and enhance automation systems. They work closely with cross-functional teams, providing insights, direction, and technical guidance to develop and enforce standards and best practices in automation.
Automation Engineer Key Responsibilities:
- Develop facility control and automation solutions based on P&IDs, PFDs, Cause and Effect (C&E), and Control Narrative.
- Design, program, and commission process control and shutdown logic in PLCs and RTU controllers according to cause-and-effect diagrams, SAFE charts, and Control Narratives.
- Participate in kick-off meetings with the Project Manager to ensure an understanding of scope, cost, schedule, and execution strategy.
- Develop the material procurement process for the assigned projects. Review the bill of materials (BOM), prepare the request for quote (RFQ), review vendor quotes and delivery schedules, and approve vendor invoices.
- Participate in internal and client meetings to review and update project status.
- Engineering, design, and commissioning of automation and control systems for oil and gas facilities – well pads, central processing facilities, compressor stations, storage terminals, water disposal wells, and gathering, and transmission pipelines.
- Other duties as assigned.
Automation Engineer Requirements:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or related discipline
- Minimum of 2 years in Automation Engineering Experience
- Experience in the Oil and Gas Industry
- Understanding of multiple automation systems platforms such as PLC, HMI, SCADA, and other applicable systems
- Broad understanding of all components involved in automation systems, from field devices to control room to enterprise-level
- Must be proficient in MS Office and demonstrate computer knowledge
- Able to work and communicate effectively with Project Manager, Engineering Manager, other Engineers, and Clients to ensure timely delivery of a quality project
- Able to learn company-specific applications
- Strong interpersonal and teamwork skills
- Demonstrated knowledge of successful project execution practices
- Behave professionally and ethically in line with Flow Data, Inc. policies
- Comply with Global and Local HSE policies
Physical Requirements:
- Sitting for extended periods at a desk working on computers.
- Close visual attention is necessary for reading schematics and detailed work on computer screens. Good overall vision, with or without correction, is vital, including accurately distinguishing colors for wiring and safety signals.
- Adequate hearing is necessary for safety reasons, particularly in environments with machinery and equipment where hearing auditory alarms and signals is crucial.
- Must be able to wear personal protective equipment (PPE) such as safety glasses, gloves, ear protection, hard hats, and, in some cases, respirators.
Work Environment:
Team members will encounter a range of work environments, each tailored to the specific demands and nature of individual projects. Candidates should be prepared for and adaptable to the following conditions:
- Primarily in office environments that are well-lit and maintain comfortable temperatures through heating and air conditioning
- Occasionally, Industrial and warehouse settings equipped with effective ventilation systems
- Occasionally, outdoor projects can lead to varying and extreme weather conditions, including heat, cold, wind, rain, and snow.
