Job Description
This position involves overseeing the quality lab operations as well as assisting the production facility to ensure programs and procedures are in place and properly followed to maintain the highest level of quality products and services to Stratas Foods customers.
- Advance quality performance and achievement through the plant
- Select, discipline, and provide annual and ongoing training of techs
- Analyze lab needs from training, staffing, and equipment needs as appropriate
- Collaborate with colleagues from other locations with respect to troubleshooting and improvements
- Review and sign off on employee timecards, vacation, overtime
- Investigate deviations, review batch sheets, etc., approval of deviation if warranted
- Represent the Lab at all daily production and management meetings
- Plant sanitarian
- Troubleshoot, maintenance, and repair of lab equipment
- Product approval in IBM and TLC as necessary
- Responsible for GMP training and lab safety
- Collect and send samples for customers
- Monitor programs to make sure preventative maintenance (PMs) is completed for lab equipment Minispec, NIR, etc.
- Create COAs as needed
- Write new procedures and update procedures in policy tech, make sure SOP reviews are being completed
- Plants main contact and lead for customer, regulatory and third party audits. Complete corrective action report for each audit.
- Determine lab equipment needs; write AFEs when needed
- Quarterly AOCS colabs, CAPA, and any other colabs needed
- Audit/monitor Production line paperwork review, and product approval.
- Audit/monitor line paperwork review (weight sheets, line QA, and metal detection includes HACCP sign off)
- Review PR1 (production) analysis. Transfers samples in TLC (approving product to ship) in assistant’s absence. Monitor/audit program
- Complete Variance Requests, monitor/track/approve quality deviations
- Review quality trends for spec review
- Complete POs in Maximo, approve supply purchases
- Complete corrective action and preventive action with root cause for quality concerns
- Food Safety, Food Security, Allergen, FSMA, RSPO, GMP training for plant; complete GMP/Quality tool box meetings with all employees
- Start/monitor and complete New Product Approval Forms
- Maintain Ingredient and Supplier Approval programs
- Maintain plant internal auditing program
- Complete and monitor monthly Quality Reports
- HACCP team leader
- Investigate, respond and complete customer requests for action
- Lead customer audits
- Complete Vulnerability assessments, risk assessments, hazard analysis
- Complete monthly plant audits (pest control, HACCP, GMP, glass) or assign and monitor
- Records coordinator for plant
- Complete or assign/monitor mock recalls
- Assist with monthly plant ingredient inventory
- Management Review meeting: schedule meeting, schedule attendees, prepare agenda, prepare quality presentation material, complete meeting minutes, send out action items and follow up
- Communicate with plant personnel regarding any quality concerns
- Policy Tech – DCA, maintain all SOPs (new, revisions)
- Review quality concerns with plant manager, assist with quality decisions
- Participate in plant LEAN manufacturing
Qualifications
Education: High School diploma or equivalent is required with desired experience. Bachelor’s Degree is preferred in operations, technical, business or engineering; or relevant experience.
Related Experience: Experience with lab and/or quality assurance in food packaging is preferred. Three to five years of supervisory/leadership experience is required.
Equipment/Software Skills: Must have good PC skills and demonstrate working knowledge of MS Office, and Outlook

Additional Information
Physical: Must be able to climb stairs, sit and stand for long periods; type for long periods of time. Must be able to lift 50 pounds occasionally.
Sensory: Good Listening Skills; Public speaking abilities to communicate with both hourly and salaried personnel.
Mental/Reasoning: Must be able to perform root cause analysis and corrective action. Must be able to continuously learn and adapt to changes in the overall business relative to oils and oil processing.
