Summer Camp Instructor

SUMMARY
The Camp Instructor assists the Museum’s Education Department by enthusiastically delivering hands- on, educational programming to children 6 to 13 years old.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Delivers fun-filled, educational programs to summer campers
- Develops program itinerary for each camp
- Represents the Museum in a positive manner by maintaining a positive attitude and delivering exceptional customer service
- Actively contributes to positive guest experiences
- Responsible for the safety and wellbeing of campers
- Serves as a team player in the Education Department by supporting the department’s goals
JOB REQUIREMENTS
- Experience facilitating youth in informal education setting or related experience
- Demonstrated ability to work independently with little supervision
- Ability to supervise children
Preferred Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Excellent organization, presentation, and motivational skills
- Strong interest in Museum education
- Ability to convey accurate scientific information in a meaningful way to children and adults
- Ability to use a variety of interpretive techniques to convey information and transfer knowledge
- Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, to establish and maintain effective working relationships with staff, volunteers, and the public
- Excellent ability to make independent decisions and delegate responsibility and duties
- Ability to arrive to work on time and maintain a positive attendance record
- Ability to work a highly flexible schedule
- Ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously
WORKING CONDITIONS
- This is an in-person position that functions on site at the museum, either indoors or outdoors, depending on the educational program need
- Lifting and carrying up to but not to exceed 50 pounds.
- Will work directly with children, Education Team members, and other Museum staff.
JOB CLASSIFICATION/OTHER:
Position Pay Range: Hourly rate of $16.00 to $18.00, Depending on experience
Personnel Classification: Part-time / Seasonal
Job Type: Part-time
Pay: $16.00 - $18.00 per hour
Schedule:
- 8 hour shift
- Monday to Friday
Experience:
- Childcare: 1 year (Preferred)
License/Certification:
- First Aid Certification (Preferred)
- CPR Certification (Preferred)
