Role & Responsibilities:
Team Leadership & Supervision:
- Lead and supervise a team of project accountants, providing direction, support, and training to ensure that team members adhere to best practices and deadlines.
- Assign tasks, monitor progress, and manage the workload of the team to ensure timely and accurate completion of billing cycles.
- Conduct regular team meetings to address challenges, provide feedback, and ensure alignment with goals and priorities.
- Mentor and develop project accountants, providing opportunities for skill development and career growth.
Project Financial Management:
- Oversee project setup and maintenance utilizing Deltek Vision ERP software ensuring accurate data entry and reporting.
• Ensure timely and accurate billing and invoicing in compliance with contract terms. • Work with Project Managers to develop and maintain project budgets.
- Track and monitor project costs, ensuring that all expenses align with the approved budgets.
- Monitor and control project expenditures, ensuring proper allocation of costs in line with project contracts and company guidelines.
Accounting and Reporting:
- Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual reports for projects, including P&L’s and cash flow projections.
- Conduct regular financial reviews with project managers to ensure accuracy and timeliness of project financials.
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date financial records in accordance with GAAP, internal policies and external regulations.
- Provide strategic insights into financial performance, helping management identify opportunities for improvement and cost savings.
Collaboration and Communication:
- Work closely with project managers to track project progress, providing financial analysis and recommendations to improve project performance.
- Regularly communicate financial status and issues to project managers and senior management to ensure alignment across teams.
- Serve as a key financial advisor to project teams, offering guidance on budget management, cost controls, and financial best practices.
- Liaise with clients regarding project billing, payment status and other financial matters.
Audit and Compliance:
- Support internal and external audit processes related to project financials, ensuring documentation and financial records are accurate.
- Ensure adherence to contractual and regulatory requirements, as well as internal controls.
- Assist in the preparation of reports for audits and ensure accurate and timely documentation for review.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting, Finance, or related field. A professional certification such as CPA or CMA is preferred.
- Minimum of 5-7 years of project accounting experience, with at least 2 years in a leadership or supervisory role, preferably in the engineering, architecture or construction (AEC) industry.
- Knowledge of various project contracts (fixed-price, time-and-material, cost-plus) and related financial management practices.
- Strong knowledge of GAAP and financial reporting standards.
- Proficiency in accounting software (e.g., Oracle, Deltek) and MS Office Suite (especially Excel).
- Excellent analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
- Strong leadership and interpersonal skills, with the ability to manage and develop teams, collaborate cross-functionally, and communicate effectively with clients and senior management. Ability to manage multiple projects, prioritize tasks, and meet deadlines.
