What are the responsibilities and job description for the Auto or Aircraft Prepper/Painter position at Straube's Aircraft Services?
The Aircraft Prepper/Painter (Apprentice Painter) works under shop management supervision to safely prepare surfaces for painting, layout and refinishing, according to schedule, adhering to company quality standards and operation procedures. This position operates in an apprenticeship context, while transitioning from prepper status towards aircraft painter classification. we operate with government contracts it mandates that all our candidates be legally authorized to work in the United States.
Responsibilities
- Perform aircraft preparation for painting and detailing, to include: Clean, mask, strip (chemical and mechanical), sand, remove corrosion, perform body work, prime, apply basic layout, paint as directed, and detail aircraft.
- Mix sealant, filler materials, and paint according to manufacturer's directions & ratios.
- Apply primer, topcoat paint, and spray-applied coatings to detailed parts, as assigned.
- Document work performed on appropriate project forms and work logs.
- Assist aircraft paint technicians as needed.
- Use protective equipment and follow safety rules in compliance with OSHA.
- Properly care for and maintain shop equipment and tools.
- Assist with aircraft movement in/out of hangars.
- Maintain a clean and organized shop floor.
Qualifications
- Ability to read, write, speak, and understand English.
- Ability to kneel, bend, squat, reach, climb ladders, and lean for several hours throughout the day.
- Lift materials weighing up to 50 lbs.
- Must pass a pre-employment drug screen and criminal background check.
- Comply with drug testing requirements in compliance with federal regulations.
- Pass an annual respirator fit test to use safety equipment.
- Must have own tools or purchase all tools needed within 30 days of hire date.
- High School Diploma or equivalent preferred.
- Must have previous industry experience as an aircraft prepper/painter or verifiable same experience in the automotive industry.
Working Conditions Work takes place in an indoor paint shop environment with exposure to chemicals and noise. Personal protective equipment (PPE) will be provided.
