We are currently seeking a Lineman Apprentice for a 1099 contract position, responsible for assisting the aerial lineman in the installation, maintenance, and repair of overhead utility lines, including telephone, fiber optic, and coaxial services. This entry-level position works under the guidance of experienced linemen, gaining hands-on training to develop the skills necessary for future advancement to a Journeyman Lineman. The apprentice will be exposed to a variety of fieldwork environments, learning to complete tasks safely and efficiently while adhering to company policies, industry standards, and regulatory requirements.
Location:
- Based in Elk Grove Village, IL.
- Travel required for various projects.
Type:
- Contract (1099 Position).
Compensation:
- Competitive hourly or project-based rate, negotiable based on experience.
Working Conditions:
- Outdoor work in all weather conditions (sun, rain, snow, etc.).
- May require long hours, including weekends or evenings, especially for emergency repairs or critical installations.
- Potential travel to different job sites within the service area.
Requirements:
Education:
- High school diploma or GED required.
- Completion of a formal Lineman Training Program is preferred, but not mandatory.
Experience:
- No prior experience required.
- Basic knowledge of electrical systems or construction-related experience is a plus.
Certifications:
- Valid driver’s license required.
- A CDL (Commercial Driver’s License) is preferred but not mandatory.
Skills:
- Willingness to learn and gain proficiency in aerial line construction and utility work.Basic understanding of tools and equipment necessary for linework (climbing gear, bucket trucks, safety equipment, etc.).
- Ability to work at heights and in various weather conditions.
- Strong teamwork and communication skills for effective collaboration with supervisors and team members.
- Basic troubleshooting skills and ability to follow technical instructions.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to lift heavy equipment and materials (up to 75 pounds).
- Must be comfortable climbing poles and working in physically demanding conditions.
- Ability to work in various outdoor environments, exposed to extreme weather conditions.
Key Responsibilities:
Installation & Maintenance:
- Assist in the installation, maintenance, and repair of overhead utility lines and associated equipment.
Inspection & Testing:
- Aid in inspecting and testing utility lines and equipment to ensure functionality and safety.
Safety Compliance:
- Follow all safety protocols, including working at heights and using necessary protective gear.
- Ensure adherence to safety standards on-site and assist in maintaining a safe work environment.
Team Collaboration:
- Work closely with ground crews and senior linemen to complete projects on time and according to specifications.
- Communicate effectively with supervisors and team members throughout the process.
Climbing & Rigging:
- Learn and utilize climbing techniques to access poles and install or repair equipment.
- Assist in rigging tools and materials to ensure efficient workflow.
Documentation:
- Outdoor work in all weather conditions (sun, rain, snow, etc.).
- May require long hours, including weekends or evenings, especially for emergency repairs or critical installations.
- Potential travel to different job sites within the service area.
