Due to our continued growth, we are seeking a motivated and growth-oriented person to join our team as the Electronic/Mechanical Production Manager at our Missoula, MT location. This position is exempt, full-time, and reports to the VP of R&D Engineering Operations.
The Electronic/Mechanical Production Manager is responsible for overseeing the production of electronic traffic control equipment, ensuring efficient operations, high-quality output, and effective inventory management. This role involves leading production and warehouse teams, coordinating component procurement, planning production schedules, and maintaining adherence to quality standards. Additionally, the Production Manager proactively identifies and mitigates supply chain risks while ensuring that repair and calibration services meet key performance indicators (KPIs). Success in this role requires strong leadership, problem-solving abilities, and technical expertise in electrical/mechanical test systems. This role requires a hands-on leader with a strong technical background and a passion for continuous learning and process improvement.
Some of the key responsibilities include:
- Oversee the operations of a production facility specializing in electronic traffic control equipment.
- Lead, mentor, and manage the production and warehouse teams to ensure timely and high-quality outputs.
- Coordinate component purchasing, production planning, and quality assurance.
- Collaborate with sales and engineering departments to track inventory needs.
- Monitor long lead-time items and inform leadership of potential risks while implementing mitigation strategies.
- Ensure repair and calibration services consistently meet or exceed KPIs.
- Test and validate production hardware before initial deployment.
- Diagnose, repair, and validate hardware returned from the field before re-deployment.
- Build and test production cables as needed.
- Accurately document created items, including wiring diagrams, mechanical fixes, and Bills of Materials (BOMs) for future procurement.
- Maintain thorough documentation of test and validation results for serviced hardware or cabling.
- Assist in maintaining calibration certifications for bench-top test equipment.
- Maintain automated test fixtures and ensure their proper functionality.
- Develop and implement light electrical, electronic, and mechanical solutions for emergent issues, documenting final solutions.
- Provide training to team members and technicians as needed.
- Continuously develop technical skills through allotted learning and self-improvement time.
- Perform other duties as assigned.

- Hands-on experience with hand tools for light assembly and disassembly of production hardware.
- Light mechanical skills for hardware repair and design improvement suggestions.
- Advanced soldering and rework skills, including:
- Lead-free soldering (certification preferred).
- Component rework, including desoldering, cleaning, and trace repair.
- Surface-mount soldering/rework down to 0201 component size (BGA soldering preferred).
- Familiarity with circuit board layout artwork files for troubleshooting at the component level.
- Proficiency in using benchtop diagnostic and repair equipment, including but not limited to:
- Digital Multi-Meters (benchtop and handheld).
- Oscilloscopes.
- Power Supplies and Digital Power Loads.
- Arbitrary Waveform Generators.
- Logic Analyzers.
- Strong analytical skills with attention to detail.
- Self-motivated with the ability to work with minimal supervision.
Required Qualifications
- Education: High school diploma or equivalent
- Experience: 5 years of production experience, including managing teams
Technology/Equipment:
- Computer skills and proficiency: Proficient in Microsoft Office, MRP, and ERP systems for production planning and component purchasing.
Physical and Mental Demands
The Electronic/Mechanical Production Manager is a mix of office and shop-based role. The primary physical and mental demands include:
Office-based roles:
- Remains in a stationary position (sitting or standing) 50% of the time.
- Constantly operates a computer and other office equipment, such as a scanner, copy machine and printer.
- Communicates with others in their area of expertise, both internally and externally. Exchanges accurate information in these situations.
- Frequently moves equipment and supplies weighing up to 30 pounds.
- Occasionally, the individual in this position will need to stand, reach, bend, stoop, and kneel.
- Specific vision abilities required by this job include normal vision.
- The office environment will have normal lighting and climate control tolerances.
- Additionally, the office setting will have moderate noise exposure, i.e. business offices with computers, printers, light traffic.
- Travel conditions may involve being in an aircraft or automobile for extended periods of time.
- Work is performed in the business office at a minimum of 40 hours a week.
Shop-based roles:
- Performs extensive standing, driving, walking, bending, twisting, stooping, crouching, kneeling, squatting, crawling, and climbing.
- Moves equipment weighing up to 50 pounds.
- Positions self to maintain equipment in the shop and on a roadside, including on equipment that is overhead and near the ground.
- Inspects equipment to detect maintenance issues.
- Moves safely over uneven terrain.
- Specific vision abilities required by this job include normal vision
- Works in hot and cold environments and on concrete floors.
- All work environments will have moderate noise exposure.
- Travel conditions may involve being in an aircraft or automobile for extended periods.
- Wears personal protective equipment including, but not limited to hearing protection, eye protection, steel-toed shoes and gloves most of the day.
- Qualifies for a DOT medical card as a requirement of driving a Commercial Motor Vehicle (CMV)
- Able to read and speak English well enough to perform certain tasks such as converse with the public, understand traffic signs and signals, respond to official inquiries, make legible entries on reports and records, and communicate with inspectors and other law enforcement officials (per the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration’s requirements of drivers of commercial motor vehicles).
