Director of Accounting
Position Overview:
The Director of Accounting is responsible for overseeing the financial operations of the firm, ensuring accuracy, compliance, and efficiency in all accounting and payroll processes. This role requires strong leadership, strategic financial planning, and the ability to manage a team in a fast-paced legal environment. The ideal candidate will have experience in law firm accounting, proficiency with SurePoint for financial management, and iSolved for payroll processing.
Key Responsibilities:
Financial Management & Reporting
- Oversee all aspects of financial accounting, including general ledger, accounts payable, accounts receivable, trust accounting, and financial reporting.
- Ensure compliance with legal industry accounting standards, including trust accounting rules and regulatory requirements.
- Prepare and analyze monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements and management reports.
- Develop and implement internal controls to safeguard firm assets and ensure accuracy in financial reporting.
Budgeting & Forecasting
- Develop and manage the firm’s annual budget in collaboration with the executive director.
- Monitor cash flow and financial performance, providing recommendations for cost control and efficiency improvements.
- Conduct financial forecasting and provide strategic insights to guide decision-making.
- Oversee payroll processing through iSolved, ensuring accuracy, compliance with tax laws, and timely payments.
- Ensure proper payroll tax filings and compliance with federal, state, and local regulations.
Accounting Systems & Process Improvement
- Manage and optimize SurePoint to enhance financial operations and reporting.
- Identify and implement best practices for accounting workflows and efficiency improvements.
- Oversee system upgrades, integrations, and staff training related to financial software.
Leadership & Team Management
- Supervise and mentor the accounting team, fostering a culture of accountability and continuous improvement.
- Manage six direct reports, ensuring clear communication, delegation, and development of team members.
- Assign responsibilities, set performance goals, and conduct regular evaluations for team members.
- Collaborate with attorneys, department heads, and firm leadership on financial matters.
Qualifications & Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field required; CPA or MBA preferred.
- Minimum of 4-7 years of accounting experience, with at least 2-4 years in a leadership role within a law firm or professional services environment.
- Strong knowledge of law firm accounting principles, including trust accounting and compliance requirements.
- Proficiency in SurePoint for financial management and iSolved for payroll processing.
- Experience with budgeting, financial analysis, and strategic planning.
- Strong leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and work effectively in a deadline-driven environment.
Salary : $120,000 - $140,000
