GENERAL SUMMARY

The Equipment Operator is responsible for starting, stopping, regulating, controlling, evaluating, performing routine maintenance, and operating a variety of mobile equipment, material handling systems and ash conditioning equipment in a safe, reliable efficient manner and in full compliance with all applicable laws, regulations, policies and procedures.

PRIMARY FUNCTIONS

Ensures that equipment and site conditions meet MSHA safety and health standards and follows all Company safety and health rules and regulations.

Operate and maintain all mobile equipment, including but not limited to bull dozer, front-end loader, excavator, tractor, water trucks and utility truck. Assists in site maintenance, (i.e., maintains entry road by fixing potholes, grading and crowning, clearing culverts, etc.).

Excavates bituminous waste coal fines and waste coal, (gob), reclaims rejected material. Utilizes ash to restore the site to approximate original contour, neutralizes rejected materials and undertakes soil amendment

Loads and unloads trucks.

Perform all building and grounds maintenance and maintain housekeeping standards in all assigned areas of responsibility.

Complies with all state, federal and local environmental laws and ensures that the site meets environmental requirements by assisting in controlling dust, erosion and sedimentation and water treatment.

Excavates and stores clay for final cover and places, compacts and grades ash.

Mixes soil for final cover and plants grasses to establish vegetative cover.

Complete Fuel Training within one (1) year.

SCOPE OF RESPONSIBILITY

The Equipment Operator operates from established and well known procedures under minimum supervision, performing duties independently with only general direction given. Decisions are made within prescribed and casualty procedures and guidelines. The Fuels Technician II encounters recurring work situations of high complexity, with occasional variations from the norm.

The Equipment Operator must perform work in a safe manner resulting in no accidents, and in full compliance with all MSHA and environmental permits, at all times. The Fuels Technician II must effectively communicate information to supervision and fellow employees, relative to the condition of the site and performance, and provide suggestions for site improvements. The Fuels Technician II must perform duties in such a way to result in an optimum cost-benefit ratio.

All employees have the responsibility to both the customer and their co-workers to do the job right the first time sand to ensure the customer’s needs are being met.

WORKING RELATIONSHIPS

The Equipment Operator reports to the Yard Supervisor and responds to direction from the Crew Chief, (or designee), in the absence of the Fuels Supervisor. The Equipment Operator works in cooperation with the site crews on matters pertaining to the daily operation of the mine site.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

Physical requirements include: Working on your feet for 8 hour periods, requiring stair and ladder climbing, and routinely lifting up to 50 Lbs. Protective equipment must be worn in the performance of some duties, (e.g., hardhats, safety glasses, air masks, ear protection). Work with hazardous material may be required.

The position requires extended working hours with the possibility of weekend and holiday work, as required by schedules, work load and site conditions. “On-Call” status will periodically be required.

All employees will participate in the Fitness for Duty Program. This program includes a post-offer physical examination and drug screening and post-employment random drug screening.

JOB QUALIFICATIONS

Ability to read, write and communicate effectively both orally and in writing English and perform basic mathematical computations, (high school diploma or equivalent preferred).

Ability to obtaion MSHA certification (training provided by Company).

Ability to operate heavy equipment, (i.e., front-end loader, dozer, excavator, tractor, water and utility truck). Ability to fuel and complete basic maintenance functions.

Ability to use basic hand tools, portable electric/pneumatic tools, rigging equipment such as winches, hoists, slings and implements such as lances, shovels, pry bars, etc..

Ability to work overtime, both scheduled and unscheduled, on days of relief and beyond regular work schedule. Ability to work rotating shift work, including holidays, nights and weekends, as needed.
