POSITION TITLE: Special Education Employment Specialist with INTERN program 

 

IMMEDIATE SUPERVISOR: INTERN coordinator, Special Education Supervisor and Special Education Director 

TERM OF EMPLOYMENT: 23/24 School Year

LOCATION: Studebaker Center 

POSITION SUMMARY: Support special education high school and Young Adult Services (YAS) students in various community work environments. 

 

DUTIES: 

  • Complete understanding of the vocational goals and objectives in the student's IEP Follow specific behavior programs described in the student's IEP 
  • Take initiative and responsibility in carrying out normal and assigned routines of the job 
  • Maintain professional appearance which is neat, clean and in keeping with the style of dress required at the community work site 
  • Respect the dignity of all students in all instances 
  • Refrain from discussing a student's behavior in front of the student or others Display sensitivity and patience with students 
  • Serve as a role model for students and community job partners 
  • Other duties as assigned 

QUALIFICATIONS: 

  • High school diploma or equivalent and successful completion of sixty or more college credits 
  • Demonstrated ability and willingness to work in a collaborative model Excellent history of work attendance and punctuality 
  • Willingness to participate in training programs 

DESIRED EXPERIENCE OR TRAINING: 

  • Successful completion of Employment Support Specialist Training 
  • Experience working with students with cognitive disabilities, and behavioral challenges in a vocational setting 
  • Experience working with students and families from a diverse range of 
  • economic, social and ethnic background 
  • Interest in working with students who experience a variety of disabilities in job training and community based vocational training and assessment sites Willing to participate in pre-placement training programs 

WORKING CONDITIONS: 

  • Ability to function as a team member with other staff 
  • Ability to effectively communicate as a SBCSC representative with persons in businesses and agencies outside of the school environments. 
  • Ability to respect students rights with regard to confidentiality of information 
  • Serve the flexible needs of other special education staff in the community training locations as directed by the program instructor or INTERN 
  • coordinator 
  • Ability to collect accurate behavior and learning data, maintain reports and records through basic computer skills 
  • Communicate appropriately on two-way radios 
  • Support students at a variety of sites with flexible schedules subject to change Accept constructive criticism 
  • Participate in cross-training for all training sites, subject to change under the direction of the program instructor 
  • Ability to work independently for extended periods of time on a daily basis with supervisory responsibilities for students at locations outside of the school setting 
  • Ability to be on your feet for extended periods of time; both indoors and out Ability to walk distances between training sites in various weather conditions Must hold valid driver's license and be able to drive to meetings or work sites before, during or after the normal working day using personal transportation. Meet arrival of students on school busses daily, despite weather conditions Ability to assist with a two person lift (minimum of forty pounds) and assist with personal hygiene as needed
