The Student Conservation Association (SCA) is the largest provider of hands-on conservation programs for youth and adults. Program participants protect and restore national parks, national forests, wildlife refuges, marine sanctuaries, cultural landmarks, community green spaces, and much more across the country.

Title: Sustainable Agriculture Position
Position Description:
The goal of this summer position is to build on a decade long effort by the Alliance of Sustainable Farms (Alliance) to strengthen the capacity of Mississippi’s small-scale underserved growers/producers and communities to implement sustainable conservation practices. Mr. Keith Benson, founding director of the Alliance has provided leadership for the organization since its inception in 2011. Under Mr. Benson leadership, the Alliance has grown from a small community base organization in the Mississippi Delta to a state and regional leader: demonstrating and promoting the adoption of sustainable conservation practices and appropriate practices; and providing regular and on-going training, technical assistance, and support to small-scale underserved growers/producers.
Mr. Benson will provide initial Individual Placement supervision/management and their base of operation will be the Davis Demonstration Farm in Winona, Mississippi – a partnership between the Alliance and Davis Farm. Intern responsibilities will include, but not be limited to:
- Helping to strengthen Mississippi’s network of small-scale underserved farmers/growers;
- Helping to demonstrate and promote the adoption of sustainable conservation practices and appropriate technologies;
- Helping to conduct field days/trainings and providing growers/producers with technical assistance and support;
- Helping with online/social media management such as keeping the Alliance’s Facebook page and website up to date, regular media postings, and generating farm profiles; and
- Helping with interactive mapping of farms, market channels such as local schools, and farmers markets, and a public/private land inventory.
Intern Benefits:
$600 per week living allowance
$1,000 per month housing allowance
$1,130 one-time travel allowance
This is NOT an SCA AmeriCorps position.
