Position Summary
Piping Plover Monitor: This position will assist with monitoring imperiled, threatened, and sensitive wildlife species on the Huron-Manistee National Forest, with a focus on the piping plover. Primary duties will be conducting shorebird surveys along the Lake Michigan shoreline within the Nordhouse Dunes Wilderness Area. Field work will often be conducted independently and will involve walking up to 5 miles per day. In addition to the plover work, this position will be involved in surveys for rare turtles, snakes, raptors, and songbirds.

Key Duties and Responsibilities
Conducting shorebird surveys along Lake Michigan beaches; Protecting piping plover nests by erecting predator exclosures; Conducting outreach to the public regarding piping plovers
Marginal Duties
Assist with a variety of wildlife surveys for rare turtles, snakes, raptors, and songbirds; Wildlife habitat management activities; Environmental interpretation and education
Required Qualifications
Able to work independently in remote field conditions; Experience or education in the field of natural resources; Valid driver's license
This SCA Position is authorized under the Public Land Corps Authority. All participants must be between the ages of 16 and 30, inclusive, or veterans age 35 or younger. Participants must also be a citizen or national of the United States or lawful permanent resident alien of the United States. Hours served can be applied toward the Public Land Corps (PLC) hiring authority.

Living Accommodations
Housing is provided in a rustic bunkhouse located on-site at the office compound. A bathroom and communal kitchen are located in an adjacent building.
Compensation
Living allowance: $450/week; Travel allowance: $1,100, paid once with first paycheck; Housing provided on-site
All allowances are subject to applicable federal, state, and local taxes.
