Position Summary
This Internship provides office and Field based support to Rangeland and Botany programs on the Sierra National Forest and is out of the Bass Lake Ranger District, North Fork, CA. The primary focus of this position will be livestock grazing allotment inspections and rare and invasive plant surveys.

Key Duties and Responsibilities
The interns will serve with USFS Staff to conduct forage utilization and streambank alteration measurements, document livestock disturbance in meadows, inspect and construct range improvements, as well as surveying for rare plants and surveying for and controlling invasive weeds in various parts of the forest for hazard tree abatement projects, and forest health projects. Rare plant and invasive weed surveys for upcoming prescribed burns, roadside hazard tree removal, recreation special uses, range improvement repair and construction, and other projects. Invasive plant early detection/rapid response (EDRR) surveys in burned areas. Invasive weed treatments may be conducted manually, mechanically, and/or with the use of herbicides. Livestock grazing allotment inspections including range readiness and forage utilization monitoring, range improvement inspections and invasive/noxious weed removal. Mapping for botany and range using ArcGIS Online (AGOL) and Field Maps. Enter and manage data using ArcGIS, Microsoft Excel and other software.

Required Qualifications
The successful applicants will be studying range management, or range science and be able to hike in rough terrain during the summer.
This SCA Position is authorized under the Public Land Corps Authority. All participants must be between the ages of 16 and 30, inclusive, or veterans age 35 or younger. Participants must also be a citizen or national of the United States or lawful permanent resident alien of the United States. Hours served can be applied toward the Public Land Corps (PLC) hiring authority.

Compensation
- $400/week Living Allowance
- $1,100 one-tome travel allowance (personal vehicle required
- $1,956 AmeriCorps Education Award upon completion of no less than 450 hours of service.
