We are seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented individual to serve as a Conservation Field Technician for the Student Conservation Association in Skagway, AK. This 19-week position offers the opportunity to work in a beautiful national park while contributing to critical conservation efforts.
About the Position
This role is focused on stopping the spread of invasive species in Klondike Gold Rush National Historical Park and supporting healthy ecosystems. You will work with a small field crew to conduct surveys, collect data, and implement removal methods.
Responsibilities:
- Conduct plant surveys and identify native and non-native species
- Remove invasive plants using hand-pulling and chemical herbicide treatments
- Analyze data and create reports to inform management decisions
- Collaborate with community partners and volunteers to achieve conservation goals
Requirements:
- Experience collecting scientific data and analyzing results
- Knowledge of ESRI GIS mapping and data collection products
- Ability to hike up to 10 miles per day in challenging terrain
