What are the responsibilities and job description for the STUDENT-FWS- Northeast Kids Count position at Student?
This opportunity is only available to students who have been awarded Federal Work Study specifically to work with Northeast Kids Count, a non-profit in the local Ithaca area. Northeast Kids Count has one positions currently open. It pays $16/ hour for up to 20 hours a week. Federal Work Study is required for this positions.
Northeast Kids Count, Inc, (NEKC) the after-school program at Northeast Elementary, is seeking program counselors for the upcoming school year. NEKC is a private, nonprofit program that provides quality childcare for school aged children in grades K through 5.

NEKC is an amazing team comprised of a diverse staff that includes a long-term administrative team as well as students, retirees, and professionals in the childcare/child development field. We are a dedicated staff, and we are committed to making a difference in the lives of the families we serve. Our program is play based and choice based. Children have many options for enriching activities daily. Staff rotate through facilitating these activities. Staff responsibilities include supervision, light meal prep, activity planning, staff meetings and ongoing (paid) training.
We are looking for driven team players with a vested interest in working with the amazing children in our program. Please see below for further details.
NEKC is open every day following dismissal. Staff report each day at 1:30pm and work until 5:30pm. NECKC follows the Ithaca City School District calendar. On days when school is closed, NEKC may run a day camp styled program from 8:00am – 5:30pm. These are days that would require additional work hours.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Preference to those with degrees or those working toward degrees in Early Childhood Education, Elementary Education, Recreation, or related field
- Must have at least one year of experience working with elementary aged children
- Must pass full Comprehensive Background Check as required by NYS and at the expense of NEKC
- Must complete training set forth by the NY Office of Children and Family Services (NYOCFS)
- Must be an excellent communicator and be willing to be a team player
- Are you responsible, safety conscious, friendly, punctual, reliable, and mature? Sound decision making skills are vital to this position as is initiative
- Must be COVID safety conscious and be vaccinated for COVID-19. NEKC follows all local, state and Ithaca City School District mandates
This is a part time position that averages 20 hours per week.
