Summary / objective
This position reports to the Chief Science Officer. We are seeking a dedicated and experienced Molecular Biologist to join our team as a STEM Educator. This individual will guide students in exploring molecular biology concepts and techniques through hands-on experiments, fostering curiosity and excitement for STEM careers. You will lead lessons and demonstrations in a laboratory equipped with advanced molecular biology tools, making a lasting impact on young minds. You will instruct students in state-of-the-art laboratory equipped with cutting-edge instrumentation, helping them gain exposure to professional methodologies and real-world applications.

Essential functions
Instruction and Mentorship :Design and deliver engaging, hands-on lessons for middle and high school students.
Explain complex molecular biology concepts and procedures in a clear and inspiring manner.Serve as a mentor, encouraging students to explore STEM careers and build confidence in their abilities.Train laboratory instructors and assistants.Train, advise, and mentor participants of S2S’ pre-apprenticeship and apprenticeship program.Lab Operations :Operate and maintain molecular biology instrumentation and equipment, including PCR machines, gel electrophoresis systems (DNA and protein), qPCR machines, and tools for gene editing and genetic recombination.
Proficiency in wet laboratory techniques (assay development, sample and solution preparation, pH, dilution, and titrations).Guide students in performing molecular biology techniques, analyzing results, and interpreting data.Guide students in performing experiments, analyzing results, and understanding data.Ensure a safe and productive laboratory environment by following best practices in safety and instrument use.Have a willingness to learn and instruct cross-discipline skills in STEM.Competencies / Qualifications
Proficiency in molecular biology techniques, including PCR, DNA and protein gel electrophoresis, qPCR, gene editing, genetic recombination, and other common procedures.Experience with maintaining and troubleshooting molecular biology equipment.Experience applying modern molecular techniques in healthcare or disease detection / diagnosis.Experience in teaching or mentoring middle and high school students preferred.Ability to simplify complex scientific concepts for diverse audiences.A strong commitment to inspiring the next generation of scientists and promoting diversity in STEM fields.Demonstrated organizational and communication skills.Possess problem-solving and decision-making skills.Highly organized with attention to detail.Skill in using personal computers and a variety of software applications.Detail oriented and work with a high degree of accuracy and efficiency.Positive and happy demeanor- ability to work with others.Excellent written and communication skills.Must be self-directed and able to complete projects with limited supervision.Proven ability to collaborate across teams and departments, contributing to shared goals.Physical demands
A significant amount of time is spent sitting and standing. Must be able to read, write and understand English. Good auditory and visual skills are required.
Required education and experience
Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in Molecular Biology, Biotechnology, Genetics, or related field, or equivalent related experience.Preferred education and experience
Master’s degree or PhD in one or more STEM-related fields (Science, Technology, Engineering, and / or Mathematics), or equivalent related experience.One (1) or more years of demonstrated experience in teaching STEM to Middle or High School Students.
