Summary -

The Chief Marketing Officer is an integral member of the Executive Management Team and is responsible for all activities related to conceptualizing and implementing marketing strategies which include but are not limited to brand campaign strategy, media engagement, public relations, social media, and external communication.

This individual will be seen as the brand ambassador and will also be responsible for achieving marketing targets with respect to brand recognition, familiarity, and equity. The Chief Marketing Officer will also interact closely with other department leadership such as Sales, Human Resources, Operations, Finance, Product Development, etc. to deliver the required materials and assets.

The position is responsible for hiring, educating, and directing the day-to-day activities of the marketing staff and multimedia team. The CMO is also responsible for managing the relationships of supporting agency partners engaged to deliver the execution of the company’s brand strategy.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities –

  • Serve as CMO of the company, providing leadership in the area of marketing strategy
  • Assess team members and evaluate capabilities to provide the needed marketing skill sets and tactical disciplines necessary to carry out the overarching marketing strategies
  • Overseeing and providing direction to market research studies and competitive analysis
  • Ensure all marketing communications are coordinated and support the strategic marketing plan
  • Actively engage, cultivate, and manage media relationships either as the primary contact or in a supporting role to any other employee who may be required to interact with the media
  • Exercise judgment to prioritize media opportunities and prepare talking points, speeches, presentations, and supporting material as needed
  • Manage the overall company marketing budget.
  • Deliver marketing plan in a fiscally responsible manner and within the budgetary guidelines set forth by senior management
  • Thought leadership within the Education Publishing industry
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Strategic mindset with the ability to make difficult decisions
  • Well-versed in SEO, web analytics, and digital marketing strategies and tactics
  • A strong foundational understanding of MDM and CRM tools and strategies
  • Strong analytic and project management skills
  • Oversee external-facing activities
  • Responsible for website content and relevance
  • Continuously improve online marketing, thought leadership (where is the customer going, what are they downloading, etc), and drip campaigns
  • Responsible to plan and execute Customer Advisory Council meetings
  • Responsible for customer advocacy programs
  • Develop planned and strategic events, conferences, and trade shows which include planning, guest speakers, and booth logistic
  • Demonstrate strong client focus and ability to effectively and quickly build relationships establishing trust, respect, and communication
  • Make data-driven decisions with the capacity to experiment and adapt
  • Provide continuous team learning and improvement
  • Show an in-depth knowledge of corporate governance and general management best business practices

Education and Experience –

  • BS Degree in Marketing, Communications, or a relevant field
  • Prefer 5 years leading Marketing teams at the executive level
  • Proven work experience in marketing with demonstrable experience in designing, implementing, and executing successful marketing, public relations, social media, and communications campaigns
  • Physical Demands –

    The employee is required to talk and hear. Often, this position requires the employee to stand, sit, bend, stoop, crawl, kneel, ascend and descend stairs. Also to reach with arms and hands, and use hands and fingers to feel, handle, and manipulate keyboard keys. The employee is also required to lift up to 20 lbs. Travel may be required on company business by car, plane, or other transportation.
