Job Overview
We are seeking a passionate and dedicated Dance Instructor to join our team. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in dance and a love for teaching, particularly to children. This role involves creating a fun and engaging environment where students can learn various dance styles while developing their skills and confidence. The Dance Instructor will work closely with students of all ages, fostering a love for dance and encouraging personal growth.
Responsibilities
- Teach dance classes to youth based on curriculum
- Hone classroom management skills
- Develop relationships with students and staff at locations where classes are hosted
- Arrive to classes AT LEAST 15 minutes before start time as per signed company policies
- Make sure that your class is considered a "success" by the company.
- Your class should be growing consistently over time
- Your class should be innovating new ideas to push the creativity of your students and others
- Your students should be excited to have you show up and teach
- You should have examples of individual students who are doing better with their grades, behavior, or other quantifiable metrics that you can share regularly. You have to know how they're doing in school. You have to work with them to encourage them to succeed or be friendly towards their peers.
- Track the growth and progress of your students through assessments throughout the school year.
- Stay current with dance trends and opportunities and share them with the team and your students
- Grow and advance dance skills; train on your own time
- Ask program managers at school sites to audit your classes regularly to determine if you are pulling the outcomes they're looking for.
- Schedule meetings and conversations with program managers on their off times to find out how we can better serve their needs as a company
- Develop relationships with parents of students
- Invite students to our paid workshops - scholarships are available.
- Collect waivers for every student in your classes. Find creative ways to incentivize this if necessary with your department lead and program manager at school sites.

Skills
- Has passed a probationary period (2 weeks) as a Dance Teaching Artist in Training and been deemed a good fit as a lead teacher for a particular school site or multiple sites.
- Has a solid understanding of the purpose of the company and the communities we aim to serve so that you can determine how to help others to the best of our ability
- Soft skills: Critical thinking, objective reporting, observant, good-natured, generous, and thoughtful
- Highly personable and relationship-focused individual
- Mandated reporter certification: General Training and School Personnel Pass regular re-training checks when required by school district
- Pass a Background check for each school district where you're teaching at least once
- Pass a TB test every 2 years
Qualifications
- Experience working with students of different age groups, from preschool to adolescence
- Strong knowledge and expertise in at least one artistic discipline (e.g., theater, dance, photography)
- Familiarity with childhood development principles and techniques for engaging young learners
- Excellent communication skills to effectively convey artistic concepts and instructions
- Ability to adapt teaching methods to accommodate different learning styles and abilities
- Strong organizational skills for lesson planning and managing multiple classes or projects
Tasks
Daily
- Teach the next generation of students in afterschool programs
- Create report for each class taught
- Prepare to serve each student in your class ahead of time
- Work with students on a personal level and invite them to intern for the media department
- Create plans to activate every minute and every mind based on the company curriculum
Weekly
- Meet with dance teaching staff to prepare for next week of teaching
Monthly
- Meet with all teaching staff to get and give advice on strategies that help classrooms run efficiently
- Meet with all teaching staff to prepare for special events, holidays, birthdays, and anything else that may require special attention
Goals
- Increase class size by 10% every 6 weeks
- Grow personal relationships with staff at class sites to know how you can best serve them. Escalate ideas to help people in new ways to leadership to implement changes in offerings or policies.
Job Type: Contract
Pay: $20.00 - $25.00 per hour
Expected hours: 4 – 12 per week
