The Study at Johns Hopkins, the fourth property of the Study Hotels brand, is located at the main gate of Johns Hopkins University’s Homewood Campus.As part of the revitalized Charles Village corridor, guests will feel immersed in both campus life and the surrounding community, and able to enjoy all that Johns Hopkins University and Baltimore have to offer the moment they leave the hotel.
Dear Charles is Study Hotels latest culinary offering opening inside The Study at Johns Hopkins. Situated proudly at the crest of the hill, as Charles Village rises to the center of the campus, Dear Charles is ideally positioned to instantly become the place for spirited conversations, local gatherings, and celebrations. With a welcome personality, Dear Charles will engage the community in a positive social dialogue, expressed through a singular informed voice and endearing sense of humor.
Dear Charles features a menu offering cuisine influenced by its Mid-Atlantic location with the warmth and everyday expectations of a village tavern. Elevated but not fussy, our goal is to offer familiar dishes, using locally sourced ingredients, with a range of robust and health-conscious options to meet the needs of a diverse community.
Skillfully carved out of the street level of the hotel as part of our adaptive reuse development of a one-hundred-year-old building, the space provides a direct link to the active pedestrian circulation of the village and soon to be opened campus student center. Intimate in scale and warmly furnished with a subtle patina, the 85-seat restaurant is a perfect complement to the open-air, inspired energy of the hotel’s public space.

- Drive Excellence: Take the lead in shaping the food and beverage vision for our restaurant, In-Room Dining, and Catering services, ensuring every detail resonates with our brand’s core values
- Dynamic Planning: Strategically design food and beverage operations for a variety of events, crafting unforgettable and customizable experiences in both indoor and outdoor settings
- Event & Banquet Management
- Masterful Oversight: Direct banquet and catering services with precision, utilizing our 2,000 sq. ft. meetingspace to host everything from executive meetings, to after wedding brunches
- Collaborative Execution: Partner closely with the sales and catering teams to guarantee that every event is flawlessly planned and executed, delivering remarkable, personalized experiences for our guests
- Seamless Logistics: Ensure timely setup and outstanding service by harmonizing team efforts, resulting in top-notch food and beverage presentations that will truly impress our guests
- Financial Management
- Budget Stewardship: Develop, manage, and monitor departmental budgets while sharpening our focus on P&L, labor costs, and revenue growth
- Maximize Efficiency: Identify and implement strategic cost-saving measures that maintain our high standards while aligning financial results with our ambitious goals
- Drive Profitability: Leverage sales and profitability data from Truth Be Told and banquet services to inspire and implement initiatives that enhance revenue generation
- Guest Experience
- Elevate Satisfaction: Be the champion of an extraordinary guest experience by prioritizing service excellence and consistency across the restaurant and event environments
- Proactive Feedback Response: Actively engage with guest feedback, making swift adjustments to improve satisfaction and cultivate loyalty
- Strategic Marketing Partnerships: Collaborate with the marketing team to amplify the visibility of ourunique ambiance, seasonal offerings, and special events
- Team Development
- Empower High Performers: Recruit, train, and inspire a high-caliber team, emphasizing their personal and professional growth
- Establish Standards: Create and uphold rigorous service standards across restaurant, catering, and banquet teams, fostering a vibrant and collaborative work culture
- Performance Enhancement: Conduct regular evaluations and offer ongoing support to help team members achieve their individual and collective goals
- Bachelor's degree in Hospitality, Culinary Arts, or a related field preferred
- A minimum of 8 years of experience in food and beverage management, with a strong record of at least 3 years in a senior leadership role, preferably in a hotel or upscale dining environment
- Certifications: ServSafe and Tipps
- A demonstrated ability in managing restaurants, banquets, and event spaces, with a solid track record in driving revenue and guest satisfaction
- Expertise in financial management, including budget creation, P&L analysis, and cost control
- A strong understanding of food and beverage trends, particularly tavern-inspired menus
- Exceptional communication, leadership, and organizational skills, with the capability to inspire and motivate a team
- Experience and comfort in a dynamic and fast-paced environment
- Experience with using Toast POS, including set-up of the system
- Flexibility to work any shift, including evenings, weekends, and holidays, as business needs dictate
- Strong proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Word, and Outlook, with excellent verbal and written communication abilities
- Robust organizational skills, including the ability to manage multiple priorities effectively
- Ability to positively communicate and interact with all hotel departments, external vendors, and guests
