As a Coating Process Engineer, you will be responsible for specifying and procuring capital equipment and establishing the porcelain enamel coating processes and leading the startup of the manufacturing process. You will collaborate in cross functional teams to develop coating processes that meet quality standards as well as cost and production targets and serve as the key technical resource to the manufacturing and new product development teams to support continuous process improvement, process troubleshooting, developing alternate sources and materials and design for manufacture. You will lead projects to optimize and improve part design, materials and manufacturing processes to meet the highest quality standards and positively impact the bottom line.
Primary Responsibilities
- Develop, define and document all aspects of the coating process and provide technical training on equipment and processes to manufacturing personnel
- Establish processing equipment specifications to meet quality, throughput and manufacturing cost targets and comply with all personal and equipment safety standards.
- Lead capital project to evaluate supplier proposals, select and procure all processing related equipment and oversee installation, commissioning and startup
- Collaborate with cross-functional team to design and implement an efficient manufacturing process and workspace
- Thoroughly understand and adhere to safety protocols related to coating application and ensure compliance with environmental and industry-specific regulations as well as internal policies
- Provide technical support to production employees, operations leaders and maintenance technicians to ensure
- Stay updated on latest coating technologies, industry trends and best practices in enamel coating. Serve as process expert to support New Product Development Teams.
- Perform and analyze process capability studies and provide subject matter expertise to Process Quality Control Plans
- Monitor and take necessary steps to reduce unplanned downtime, scrap and cycle times through effective trouble shooting methods (8D, Design of Experiment, etc.)
- Review and approve/reject engineering change orders related to coated parts and develop engineering test and development plans to mitigate risks and manage changes
