What are the responsibilities and job description for the Food Service Courier position at Substitute Teacher Service?
STS is currently looking to hire a Food Service Courier for the 25/26 School year. This position works a part-time schedule 2-3 days per week.
Position Summary
At the direction of the designated school team leader and STS Supervisor, the employee is responsible for providing transportation of food, supplies and materials for the food service department. The employee works with other members of the Department/Building in meeting goals and objectives of the District mission to provide a social and educational environment for the students.
Qualifications and Required Documents (Clearances within one year)
- Pennsylvania Criminal Records check (Act 34)
- Pennsylvania Child Abuse Clearance History (Act 151)
- FBI Criminal History Record (Act 114)
- Proof of a TB test or chest x-ray that is less than three months old
- Proof of a high school diploma or higher education (copy of transcripts/diploma acceptable)
- Additional required STS documents will be provided during on boarding process
Essential Functions
- Provides effective, efficient and safe handling of food and supplies in accordance with federal, state and district laws, regulations and policies.
- Delivers and picks-up food, supplies and equipment according to an established time schedule.
- Receives incoming supplies from vendors and school kitchens, verifying quantities against bill or transfer slip and reports all discrepancies
- Receives and stores product in a highly organized fashion and maintains organization in freezer and dry storage areas.
- Maintains monthly inventory records of government received products.
- Ensures proper first-in/first-out (FIFO) procedures by dating and rotating products.
- Adheres to safety and sanitation policies and procedures.
- Accurately pulls food and supply items for schools, and delivers them in a timely fashion and reports any discrepancies to the cafeteria manager.
- Keeps receiving area clean and orderly
- Establishes and maintains effective communication with STS Supervisor, site leaders, co-workers, etc.
- Attends training sessions as assigned.
- Communicates necessary facility maintenance, equipment repairs and/or replacement, truck maintenance and potential safety hazards to the supervisor.
- Secures delivery truck in designated areas.
- Follows and maintains defined standards of sanitation for personnel, food preparation, kitchen equipment, and the cafeteria unit.
- Follow traffic laws and state and federal transit regulations

- Sitting 15%, walking/standing 85%

- Ability to use fingers to pick, feel and grasp objects
- Some stooping, bending and twisting of the body
- Ability to lift and/or carry supplies weighing up to 50 lbs. or more
Other Physical Requirements
- One year of experience in driving or delivery operations is preferred.
- Ability to read, write, and speak English
- Keen sense of logistics
- Knowledge in the food service industry with an understanding of nutrition, sanitation and food safety.
- Knowledge of vehicle safety.
- Safe driving record at discretion of district.
- Possess current valid PA driver’s license with clean violations.
- Knowledge of traffic laws and state and federal transit regulations
