Our client, a leading manufacturer known for innovation and excellence in industrial equipment and process systems, is seeking an experienced and forward-thinking Engineering Manager to lead their Equipment Design Engineering Team. This is a high-impact role responsible for driving technical innovation, managing multi-million-dollar capital projects, and supporting cross-functional teams with strategic engineering solutions.
The ideal candidate is a hands-on leader with exceptional technical depth, proven people management skills, and a strong background in mechanical systems, equipment design, and manufacturing process improvement.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide strategic direction and leadership to the equipment design engineering team, overseeing the planning, development, and execution of new equipment design, enhancements to existing systems, and manufacturing process innovations
- Supervise, mentor, and develop engineers building both their technical expertise and leadership capabilities
- Lead the design and specification of complex equipment including presses, mobile equipment, heat treat systems, and machine tools
- Direct and participate in research and development initiatives; evaluate and recommend equipment innovations based on function, safety, ROI, and manufacturing needs
- Manage all mechanical system design aspects: component selection, FEA/CFD analysis, SolidWorks modeling, material selection, tolerancing, and GD&T
- Oversee project lifecycles from concept to commissioning: budgeting, procurement, ROI analysis, contract review, vendor management, and final delivery
- Partner with Maintenance and Production to optimize reliability, troubleshoot complex mechanical and hydraulic systems, and enhance productivity
- Coordinate with cross-functional teams to ensure alignment of engineering deliverables with broader project objectives
- Support capital project execution (up to $60M) through detailed project management and effective communication with internal and external stakeholders
- Stay current on emerging technologies and provide technical and financial justification for future investments
- Deliver second-level support and training to maintenance personnel while promoting continuous learning and operational excellence
Qualifications
Required:
- Bachelor s degree in Engineering
- Minimum of 15 years of relevant engineering experience, with a strong background in capital equipment and mechanical systems
- Proven people management and leadership experience
- Proficiency in SolidWorks for 3D modeling of parts, assemblies, and drawings
- Advanced knowledge of Finite Element Analysis (FEA) and Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD)
- Strong proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite
- Deep understanding of blueprint reading, tolerancing, material selection, manufacturing processes, and hydraulic/mechanical systems
- Demonstrated ability to manage capital projects up to $60M
- Excellent communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills
- Hands-on, analytical mindset with strong problem-solving and troubleshooting capabilities
Preferred:
- Master s degree in Engineering or related field
- Professional Engineer (PE) License
- Experience in high-stakes project negotiations and cross-functional collaboration
