Job Title: Field Mechanic

Location: Travel - United States

Pay Rate/Range: Salary - $60-$80K experience based

Schedule: Typically M-F but dependent upon equipment needs and

railroad

Amount of Travel (if applicable): No set travel schedule – on

average 4-5 weeks out, 1 week home

Per Diem (if applicable): $166/day non-taxed

Company Vehicle (if applicable): Yes

Duties and Responsibilities:

*This is a non-exhaustive overview of the job duties for this position.

-Supports all labor activity involved in inspecting, rebuilding, and repairing maintenance of way

equipment.

-Day to day tasks vary, regularly dispatched to field locations.

-Welding, electrical, and hydraulic work on railroad equipment.

-Perform railcar inspections and repairs to FRA & AAR guidelines and customer requirements.

-Conduct preventive maintenance and repair of equipment as required.

-Follow safety policies and procedures and wear the required personal protective equipment

required for the job in a safe manner.

-Regular and consistent engagement, participation and promotion of company culture and its

essential behaviors are a requirement for this position.

-Regular and predictable attendance and punctuality are a requirement for this position.

Other duties as assigned.

 

Travel Requirements:

Our mechanics go the extra mile to meet our uptime needs. Extensive travel time is required

in this position. Up to 95% of work time may be spent away from home on an annual basis.

While our mechanics are compensated accordingly, this commitment to travel time should be

seriously considered prior to applying for this position.

 

Qualifications:

-At least 21 years of age.

-Experience with electrical, diesel mechanics, welding, and hydraulics is a must.

-Must have a valid driver’s license with a good driving record.

-Class B CDL a plus.

-Must be able to travel to customer location.

-Relocation not required.

-Must be self-motivated and able to work independently.

-Must provide steel toe boots (safety vest, glasses and hardhat provided)

-Must have basic hand tools.

-Must be able to cover travel expenses (if required) until 1st paycheck is processed

(approximately 7-10 after start date)

-High School Diploma or GED.

-Industry experience is a plus.

-Provide all hand tools.

 

Pre-Employment Requirements:

-Pass and maintain e-RAILSAFE pre-employment background check and safety certification. 

-Subject to motor vehicle report review.

-Maintain valid driver’s license and endorsements as required per position.

-Pass pre-employment DOT physical, medical evaluation, and drug screen due to the safety

sensitive nature of this position

o This position requires you to pass and maintain a DOT medical evaluation to drive

company commercial vehicle. 

 

-Must successfully pass color/vision examinations as required by the position.

-Successfully complete and maintain any required safety certification and testing on an annual

Basis.

 

Physical Requirements:

The physical demands described below must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential job functions of this role. This position will be physically demanding at times. This is a non-exhaustive overview of the physical requirements of this job.

-Regularly lift weight up to 75 pounds to a height of up to 56 inches.

-Regularly carry weight up to 75 pounds to a distance up to 100 feet.

-Regularly push/pull up to 50 pounds for a distance up to 50 feet.

 

-Regularly grasp or squeeze with forces up to 40 pounds.

-Regularly ascend and descend a 10 step ladder with up to 25 pounds. Frequently climb on/off

equipment.

-Work in a confined access/space environment with a height of 12 inches and a width of 24

inches.

-Regularly kneel, bend, squat while transferring up to 25 pounds of weight.

-Regularly sit and stand for an extended period of time.

-Able to walk on uneven surfaces up to 1 mile.

-Regularly lay on your back for extended periods of time.

-Regularly reach overhead while holding tools.

-Must be able to be aware of surroundings and follow verbal commands while being exposed to

moderately loud noises on a daily basis.

-Must be able to adapt to various temperature extremes including but not limited to heat, cold,

moisture and wind.

-Must be able to work in a safety sensitive work environment.

-Must successfully pass color/vision examinations as required by the position.

-Must be able to hear and distinguish auditory signals as required by the position.
