The Workforce Development Coordinator will oversee and manage workforce development programs within the Suffolk County Sheriff's Department's Re-Entry Division. The primary objective of this role is to assist incarcerated individuals in successfully reintegrating into society by providing skills training, job readiness programs, career counseling, and resources aimed at securing employment upon release. This position will also fulfill other re-entry services in support of the re-entry team and objectives. This position requires a dynamic, empathetic, and organized individual with a commitment to reducing recidivism by equipping individuals with the tools necessary for sustainable employment.
Duties And Responsibilities
Participation in mandatory training

Duties And Responsibilities
- Program Design & Implementation: Develop, implement, and continuously improve workforce development programs and services for individuals within the Re-Entry Division. This includes career counseling, vocational training, job readiness workshops, resume writing, interview preparation, and soft skills development.
- Collaboration with Employers: Establish and maintain relationships with local employers, unions, businesses, and vocational training organizations to create job placement opportunities for program participants. Negotiate partnerships and ensure a continuous pipeline of employment opportunities.
- Assessment & Case Management: Conduct assessments of program participants to determine their workforce readiness and create individualized employment plans. Provide ongoing case management and mentorship to ensure participants are progressing toward achieving their employment goals.
- Monitoring & Evaluation: Establish performance metrics and track outcomes related to workforce development programs. Ensure the continuous evaluation of program effectiveness, making adjustments as needed to improve success rates.
- Community Outreach & Advocacy: Represent the Suffolk County Sheriff’s Department at community and workforce development events. Advocate for policies that promote the employment of formerly incarcerated individuals and raise awareness about re-entry challenges and solutions.
- Data Tracking & Reporting: Maintain accurate records of participant progress and outcomes, providing regular reports to the Director of the Re-Entry Division, the Sheriff’s Office, and external stakeholders. Use data to inform continuous improvement efforts and make strategic decisions about program adjustments.
- Re-Entry Services
- Experience working with incarcerated populations or individuals with barriers to employment is highly preferred.
- Strong understanding of Workforce Development, including job readiness training, career counseling and vocational programs.
- Ability to build and maintain relationships with employers, community organizations and other key stakeholders.
- Exceptional communication, interpersonal skills and must be maintain significant organizational skills.
- Strong leadership abilities with the capacity to manage both internal teams and external partnerships.
- Bachelor's Degree in Social Work, Criminal Justice, Business, Human Resources or in related field. You may also have a minimum of 5 years experience in Workforce Development/Re-entry Services or related fields.
- Knowledge of labor market trends and local employment opportunities
- Ability to assess client needs and provide tailored solutions that maximize success.
- Familiarity with case management systems and data tracking tools.
- Punctual and predictable attendance at assigned workplace and at scheduled meetings;
- Knowledge of compliance policies and enforcement of department policies and procedures;
