Role Overview: The Vice President of Consumer and Mortgage Lending provides strategic leadership and direction for the Consumer and Mortgage Lending departments. This role focuses on driving growth in loan portfolios, managing risk, and fostering staff development. The position requires a broad, high-level perspective and collaboration across key business functions, including Sales, Marketing, Credit Risk, Finance, and IT, to achieve organizational goals.
Key Responsibilities:
- Leads strategic direction and growth of lending services while ensuring alignment with credit union goals.
- Manages the lending product line, researching and analyzing new products and delivery systems.
- Recommends service and product enhancements to maximize lending production and efficiency.
- Optimizes credit union profitability through strategic loan pricing, fee income, and product delivery.
- Develops and manages the Risk-Based Lending Program, including risk pool analysis and loan loss prevention.
- Monitors market trends and evaluates new lending opportunities.
- Ensures regulatory compliance through ongoing analysis, monitoring, and reporting.
- Conducts portfolio analysis to identify risks and opportunities for profitability and improvement.
- Develops strategies for loan origination, attrition, and credit limit management.
- Manages outsourced vendor relationships that support lending operations.
- Oversees management-level employees through mentoring, coaching, and performance evaluation.
- Attends board and ALCO meetings, making lending and policy recommendations while addressing escalated concerns.
Essential Qualifications:
Qualified candidates will have bachelor's degree in a business-related field. 10 years of experience in consumer and mortgage lending, with a proven track record in management and supervisory roles. Expertise in all aspects of residential mortgages, including the secondary market, within a credit union or similar financial institution is required. Strong knowledge of Encompass and MeridianLink systems is preferred.
- Strong credit expertise, including lending authority and the ability to analyze and evaluate credit reports, residential appraisals, financial statements, and tax returns. Proficient in managing credit cards, home equity loans, auto loans, and other consumer loan products.
- In-depth knowledge of credit scoring, risk analysis, and mitigation strategies related to portfolio management, loan growth, lending guidelines, loan processing, and documentation.
- Proven ability to present compelling business cases to senior-level management.
- Comprehensive understanding of general accounting practices and federal and state banking regulations.
- Demonstrated leadership, coaching, and management skills with a track record of motivating and influencing teams through diplomacy and trust-building.
- Strong commitment to maintaining confidentiality and handling sensitive information with discretion.
- Exceptional analytical skills and keen attention to detail.
- Excellent communication, negotiation, and interpersonal skills.
