THIS ROLE CAN BE BASED IN LAS VEGAS, NV OR LOS ANGELES, CA
The Controller will oversee the planning, development, implementation, and maintenance of the company’s accounting and finance department, supporting and promoting profitable goals and objectives.
They will work with our corporate teams in Los Angeles & Las Vegas and will be a key part of our finance team. You will oversee G/L, A/P, A/R, Fixed Assets, Inventory Accounting, and Financial Reporting for multiple subsidiaries, while being closely aligned with our CFO and CEO. You will be responsible for month-end closing, inter-departmental information flow, internal and external financial reporting support and developing and complying with accounting procedures and internal controls for all current and future business needs.
Responsibilities:
- Defines and implements key performance indicators and strategic objectives for the finance department and; facilitates measurement of those objectives, reporting results to the executive team
- Ensures compliance with federal, state, local, and organizational laws, regulations, guidelines, and best practices, including but not limited to tax laws, generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP) and SEC rules and regulations
- Oversee and streamline processes for accounting transactions including G/L, A/P, A/R, Fixed Assets and Inventory Accounting
- Prepare and/or review borrowing base reports for senior secured lender and maintain compliance with loan agreement
- Execute monthly, quarterly and annual financial close processes
- Supervise finance personnel including Director of Finance & Accounting and 2 staff accountants.
- Manage and develop accounting staff
- Prepare, review and post journal entries
- Perform and review account reconciliations
- Assist with tax compliance including review of multi-state sales and use tax returns
- Responsible for working with our external tax consultants on Federal and State tax compliance and reporting
- Develop and maintain accounting policies, procedures and systems to ensure compliance with GAAP accounting principles, regulatory, tax and management reporting requirements
- Perform ad-hoc analysis in addition to normal weekly and monthly reviews and analysis
- Serve as a liaison to external auditors and external tax consultants
- Work with CFO and CEO to define weekly, monthly and quarterly financial performance criteria and reporting packages for the senior leadership team and Board of Directors.
- Assist in all areas of accounting, analysis, and reporting whenever needed
- Performs other duties as required
Education & Skills:
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance required; MS in Accounting or Finance, or MBA preferred
- Certified Public Accountant required
- Public accounting experience preferred
- At least ten years of experience in the financial function of a company required
- CPG experience preferred
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Experience in cost accounting is a must
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with attention to detail.
- Team player with excellent organizational skills and positive attitude
- Strong supervisory and leadership skills
- Proficient with NetSuite and other ERP systems, Avalara Tax Compliance Software and Microsoft Office Suite,
- Experience working with a publicly traded company and SEC filing experience required
- Knowledge of Sarbanes-Oxley, developing and implementing internal controls for a public company a plus
- M&A experience a plus
- Extensive knowledge of accounting procedures and GAAP accounting principles
- Inventory accounting, valuation, and reporting experience
- A strong sense of accountability
Salary : $140,000 - $180,000
