SMC Safety Specialist
Job Description
The safety Specialist will work closely with the safety Director and enforce the organization's safety program. The right candidate must be willing to travel to multiple job sites around the state for employee onboarding, training, and worksite audits.
Responsibilities
-Ability to interpret and apply OSHA regulations on a practical basis.
-Perform workplace assessments, identify hazardous conditions including routine safety inspections, and take corrective actions.
-Assist in the investigation of workplace accidents and perform root cause analysis; recommend/take corrective action and complete all logs and required reports.
-Ensure Job Safety Analyses (JSA’s), Work Permits, Emergency Action Plans, etc., have been issued and enforced.
-Collaborate with management to create safe work plans.
-Collaborate with management to develop, prepare, and implement safety and security policies and procedures.
-Collaborate with clients on best practice policy and job planning.
-Enforce the safety and security programs to promote and ensure a safe working environment.
-Maintain OSHA-required records on accidents and maintenance.
-Submits recommendations for improvements and additions to the safety director including emergency preparedness, accident prevention, general safety, and risk management.
-Stop operations and activities that could harm staff or equipment.
-Identifies opportunities to minimize workplace injuries, accidents, and health problems.
-Staff training on multiple topics including MEWPs, Lift Trucks, and OSHA standards/ best practices.
-Creating reports and training utilizing Microsoft Office. Must be proficient in Word, PowerPoint, and Excel.
-Administer basic first aid such as treating cuts, burns etc.
Minimum Requirements
-1 years’ experience in industrial construction
-Understanding of construction environment and risks present.
-Proficient in Microsoft Office
-Highschool diploma or equivalent
-Good Verbal and Written Communication Skills.
-Self-motivated, ability to determine where presence is needed without supervisor input.
-Organizational skills
SMC is willing to train the right candidate for this position.
Preferred
-OSHA 30 or equivalent
-Certified Safety Professional
-CPR First AID AED certified
Other
Capable of working as a team member.
-Ability to multi-task and change assignments as necessary to ensure compliance and safety.
-Ability to speak in large groups and communicate effectively.
